Route BCSJ-507

I though all routes in Trs19 uploaded to the DLS had to have all kuids? The one I've just downloaded has 25 missing kuids. What a waste of my time. I have no idea where to get them even though I will post them on trainboys post but should I have to? That probably wont be successful either. Surely there is a way round this. Cant we PM the creator with a email address and get a .cdp off him with the missing ones? What is the norm? Is there a way round this? It's very disconcerting to find that once you download a large route for the appropriate game you have game and there are missing kuids that then prevent it working. How do newbies get on? I'll bet they soon get fed up and give trainz up this is a regular feature.

Horace has several threads on this route and he has provided all the links to the missing items there. This is a FREE route, made by a user for YOUR enjoyment, he's not obligated to share it with you at all and hes done a as good a job as anyone to provide links to any external items, the route itself should be able to be driven even if a few items are missing . Trainboi's items are again free, but they often do rely on external items which are not on the DLS , if this doesn't suit, just go find other stuff if it doesn't work.
You will find that almost every freeware route has some missing items, it is extremely hard to ensure everything is up to date and all in one place, its taking me weeks to try and get a route of mine to be DLS glitch free , if you use items that aren't allowed to be modified or even hosted on the DLS, then you can run into issues. the problem is, its not always possible to remember where one got items from if you have had them on your hard drive for years .
Perhaps you don't appreciate the difficulties involved in providing glitch free routes in a game where anyone can make content , it has upsides and downsides, if you don't like it, my advice is , go play another game or just purchase the official routes. ..........

Ouch. Mind you, I see and feel both sides of this one. I've downloaded routes only to find no track, about six buildings and if I'm lucky, the textures done. It is extremely frustrating to download a route and find this, or (which is different, and the above example) a great list of missing and sometimes unknown assets. It is true that making a route, if large and actually complete, is a massive amount of work. If a few items are missing, sure it's a pain, but miles less pain than spending a year or more making the route. I believe there should be a code required whereby no route should be allowed on the DLS unless it states A), Full complete route or not complete, B) Actual Route (real) or Fictional. Probably never going to happen.

I'm afraid we will all have to put up with the fact we will never know anything until after we download it, that is just the way it is. You have a few choices, ignore the missing assets (just like the S&C which is missing thousands), try and find them, or delete the route. I'd tend to be thankful there are many good routes out there even if there are more that aren't. Either way there is no easy answer.

It is extremely annoying , but given the nature of the game, its almost inevitable. For instance the original Timber Ridge dates back to at least 2009, and its revamped version I'm working on now has a small number of missing assets, I've never been able to find out what they are, they aren't essential and don't interfere with the running of the route. However, when i downloaded it in 2010 it was missing almost all the tunnels and i had to restore them. I could have given up on it, but it was a good lesson in learning how to construct stuff for me .
For example, today i have visited a portion of the timber ridge ive not worked on for a few weeks , there are a number of patches of ground that are now missing textures that were covered when i last worked on it. how this has occurred I have no way of knowing, there no indication which texture is missing , I've not deleted any items I used I am aware of , this seems to happen quite regularly to me , has something been obsoleted or removed by NV3 or another user ? I now have to fix an area that i thought was complete, see how easy it is for issues to occur ? .
There are various reasons why there are missing items , it can be legacy items from way back that are no longer compatible. just a dependency that's no longer around that stops an engine being used, or as Horace found , items he included on external sites that have no equivalent anywhere else.

Routes can be intact and then, a new version of trainz comes along and voila, a slew of assets are no longer valid. Even high quality routes I've bought often have had missing items . I can quite honestly say that the number of routes I've downloaded that are completely intact can be counted on the fingers of one hand . It would be nice if NV3 had a way to indicate that a route has missing items or not , but some routes have minor issues and others have major ones such as missing track , or tunnels, it might be counterproductive as routes that only have minor problems might be avoided unless there was a way to indicate that problems were major or minor . I think a voting system would be good , it would at least indicate what the quality would be like and whether the item was worth downloading ....

No I don’t know how much work goes into making a route nor do I mind paying for good quality routes and assets, but it’s a pity you hadn’t thought of deciding to help and directing me to the creators release notes to find my way through the problem instead of penning your smart alec comments. Perhaps the lockdown is getting to you.

Well you could easily find them , its a prominent route and its only recently been released.
I typed BCSJ Route into forum search and found Horace's thread in 10 seconds.

As for me being a smart Alec, just read your initial post and see if you could have asked for help in a less antagonistic way ...... I've just spent nearly 2 weeks uploading items for people like you to use, and the demanding tone you used got my goat .

All too often creators just get complaints about things that do not work and very little praise,as some of us are a demanding and unappreciative lot, Horace has made a fantastic route and you didn't include one word of praise for what he created , you were just whinging about missing items.

You are hardly a newbie , although you might be new to 2019. You've been around here since 2009 , you've posted nearly 600 times so you should have some idea of how this works by now, if you don't have any idea of how much time and effort that it takes to make freeware routes for you to use then you've not been paying attention. It IS annoying to look for missing kuids , but then , its always been annoying :)
