Riding in coaches?

Probably a stupid question, but is it possible to ride in a coach on a train under AI control? And if so, how would I set it up?

Ken

Sure, lots of coaches have interior views. You simply click on the coach while driving and select camera view 1 to put yourself inside, looking out.

There are some coaches that do not have interior views. These coaches cannot be ridden.

While in interior view, pressing [ and ] will change the camera position, and right-clicking will allow you to change the camera angle. The game stores the last camera position for each car, so when you navigate to a different car and come back, when you press 1, the camera will be exactly where you left it.

Off the top of my head, in TS10 the US Superliner coaches have an interior view.

Also the later BR Mark One coaches all have interior views, excellent for just sitting back and enjoying a Railtour over your favourite line.

The Chinese and Russian coaches also have interior views (TS12) though as these are couchette type cars it is a bit more restricted than sitting in an open saloon. Some of the Russian cars even feature a pseudo superelevation (cant) as you go through curves.

Actually, now I've tried it out, I quite like the change of pace, particularly with thw observation car from PaulzTrainz LNER Coronation set. My original purpose was to go around my route at uninterrupted track level checking for errors, omissions and possible tweaks so I could make improvements, and carriage view does that very well.

Ken, are Mike10s coaches on the DLS? And, Vern, I think I have the BR ones, I'll give them a go.

Anyway, as always, thanks to everyone for their help.

Mike10's coaches are in the SnC addon pack -extra downloads. I mentioned that because I was sure you had the addon pack.

Yes I do, and I've found them on the SnC site, along with quite a lot of other good stuff! Oh, joy, the things you find when you look.

Thanks very much for the heads-up - never thought of checking SnC for extras, will keep an eye on that.

All the best

Ken

There is sooo much stuff on the SnC site, it is truly a great add-on for the fact you get all those extra goodies!

If you're into the UK scene (as you seem to be), the Duchess or Coronation add-ons come with very nice coaches for when you want some class ;)

Did you download the Leeds to Sheffield TC3 route from the DLS because this will work in TS2010 with the extras added from SnC addon site.
Did you ever download the extras from the TC3 site for your TC3 installation.

Davie,

Yes I've got both of those and use them in my route, in different sessions, for a non-stop express end to end, with a stopping train following behind. Can't leave those passengers stranded!

Ken,

I did not know there was a TC3 site, and I made the mistake of getting that from Steam when it was on offer. I got 2010 from Steam and had to replace it with another from Auran due to patching issues. Steam is OK for some things, but for Trainz it's a waste of money IMHO. It just whets your appetite, which is frustrating until you get the real thing. Anyway, just my personal opinion, and probably there are those who are quite happy with Steam's offerings (when on sale, I can understand that - that's why I got it - on sale). I might try the Leeds-Sheffield route, it seems like it might appeal, being set in Yorkshire.

Thanks to you both.

Works for cabless loco's so try this. Add an attachment point a.cabfront with Pev's Attachment maker and assuming the coach has an inside, use an invisible interior with camera positions and add the tag outside-visible-from-cabin 1 to the config, add the the interior tag to the coach config.

If you ride in the Chinese coaches and sleeping cars in the Southern China route those cars each have about 10 different interior views. You can even experience a Chinese toilet. (The ones in Ocemy's coaches are a whole lot cleaner than the ones in the real Chinese trains I've ridden, though. And smell much better.)

Tyler Bishop's (Flamerail) SBW cabooses (that I repaired, reskinned, and put on the DLS and others like BTVFD have reskinned as well) have interior views (pretty spartan, though, because there isn't a really clear mapping to follow) and "standing on the porch" views to ride along in also. I have his original mesh that I may someday remap to bring out the interior more. Of course, I've got WAY too much on my plate right now.

You've done a nice job with these, Scott. I use two of them on one of my routes that I drive. I find that when doing switching moves, I go for the ride back to the yard in the caboose while the AI brings me home. :)

Thanks, John! I've explored a few routes standing on the porch while the AI takes me for a ride. I home to have an interior for my new transfer cabooses soon..... Unfortunately, the new semester at school has started and I've got a heavier courseload than I have in the past, so I'm not sure when I'll get a round tuit.

Does this mean you can add interior views to any carriage. Eg. Use one of Mike10's interiors to any carriage that does not have a rideable interior. I'm intrigued.
