Reskinning fonts

Thai1On

Slave to my route
I'm reskinning a new reefer that has just been shipped to the Levi shops and I'm not happy with the fonts results in Photoshop. The fonts aren't crisp and clear. How or what should I do the get good looking fonts?

Dave

In general, using a larger resolution file is the easiest way to get clean, readable fonts, after that it's up to the settings you have enabled in your graphics program, and then manual cleanup.

Success! Thanks for the tip Euphod it's looking great

Is this reskin of a Dragon Pass Productions reefer worthy of putting on the DLS?

Well, I think there are better models of a reefer to reskin, and you've made a spelling error, so I wouldn't upload that just yet...

"Quality"

OK this is my first "blank slate" reskin what else does it need, beside me having any talent :o Weathering, car information signs? I really want to improve my reskinning skills as a diversion from cleaning up grades on my route.

Ready for beta testing. This car was done for T2010 but I would love to hear feedback on it:hehe: Just send me a PM and I'll send the Ifile link. Thanks for taking a look.

Have you fixed the spelling yet? Quality Meats

Thanks John

Ready to go! The shop foreman had a few choice words for the paint dept.:hehe:

Seems to me it needs something else?

I don't know if it needs something else, but if I were releasing it I would add a city under the "E. Kahns & Sons Co.". A meat packing city would work well, like St. Louis, Mo., or Chicago, Ill.;)

There is one other thing with the typing.
If the name of the company is Kahns and Sons Co. then the possesive should be KAHNS' not KAHN'S. If the company name was Kahn and Sons the KAHN'S would be right,

Just my pennyworth.

ok i'm going to be turthyfull here. I don't like it. The wooden panles look horrble the panles need more detail to look like wood there also I few things I wonted to add in as far as detail dos in the mesh. as builter of the mesh the car needs a under chasey and hand brack needs redoing. I'm going to hull the car in for servesing. sorry but the wooden panleing is driveing me nuts. thats a blank not for you to follow and ues as a guld only. :) lol i'm one to juge my own mesh so baddy but I bate tested it and saw them failts rigth off. prolbem is my HD died fbefor i coude fix them.. I'll make a new mesh. not being a meany I'll get some new looks up to date soon as I can.

Thanks for all the help and I will wait for the car to get out of the shop and add the necessary details. I want my first upload to the DLS something people will like to use and not just upload something just for the sake of uploading something.

Doing some more research the date is wrong too. I will change it 1883 and just double checked and yes it is spelled Kahn's so I need to remove the 's' from the E. Kahn & Sons Co. sign. I really like adding the name of the city too, great tip. Thanks for your input :)

Looking Good

Looking much better... one trick you may or may not have tried is simply using a larger texture map, 1024 x 1024 instead of 512^2, for example. No need to change anything inthe config if the name is the same.

Also, and strangely, after creating your texture file with the best possible resolution it sometimes looks better in-game if you smear it just a trifle in your paint program - not "blur" but just "soften" or "unsharpen." The game engine seems to do very well with these, better than sharp edges for some reason.

dose TRS12 let you use 1024X1024 texture maps becuse it all ways gives me a resize error is its not 512X512 thats why i don't change it.

I use MS paint I don't think it has that "soften" or "unsharpen." intsalled.

The new car has a poly count of 1704 here the complet new mesh now being taken out of the shop and ready to be shiped out to her next spet.6666

TS12 can use any power of 2 texture fires so 512 by 512, 1024 by 1024, 512 by 2048, 2048 by 2048 etc. TS2009 and up use DXT compression so the texture file size is much less of an issue than once it was.

If the box car has a poly count of 1704 then its worth doing at least one lod level.

Cheerio John
