Reinstalling TRS2006

The nightmares of 2006. Well, actually, for once, it isn't the buggy programming of 2006 that is prompting me to reinstall it. Actually, it would be due to a series of computer problems that have caused havoc with the registry of most of my programs. Trainz still works but it is a little more unstable than before, tending to crash if I minimize to do something else. Also, downloading new content is a bit of pain since my computer doesn't know what to do when I tell it to download from the DLS. I think if I can reinstall trainz and get its registry back, things will go back to working a bit better. Before I reinstall though, I need to know a few things.

How do I ensure I retain all of the content I have downloaded?

Once I've got everything I've downloaded safely stored, how do I get it reinstalled back into the game?

Thank you everyone.

Hi bigboy4010,

Before you uninstall copy your "local" folder to a safe place, maybe an external disk if you are going to completely rebuild the computer. You could also copy your Trainzoptions.txt file and your screenshots folder but the main one is the local folder. After rebuilding and getting windows running again instal TRS2006 and do NOT run it, copy SP1 to your hard disk then instal SP1.
Run TRS2006 once to see it has installed the built in content then open CMP and allow it to update, this could take some time but leave it to finish. After CMP has finished updating copy you local folder, your screenshots folder and your trainzoptionz.txt file back to their original locations. Delete the file assets.tdx and assets.bku and run CMP again and allow it to rebuild again.
You should then have a TRS2006 that runs.

Cheers,

I agree with everything that has been said. Also, when getting everything back into Trainz, you can click on Import Content and then import the entire local folder right into CMP, then commit everything. It may take a little longer, but both ways work. :)

Thank you so much guys. Everything works great. Now I can finally get back to work on my railroads! I've got all of my content back, everything works perfect. Thank you so much.:Y:

Hi - am trying to do the same thing - what is "SP1"? Pardon my ignorance!!

SP1 is also known as Service Pack 1 - it's a patch to fix existing features in Trainz (TRS2006 in this case), and/or add new features.

The exact file required to do this patch will depend on where TRS2006 is bought from.
