Redcliffe Railway

After reading the Redcliffe Herald this afternoon, it would seem that Redcliffe is closer to a rail link then ever before, with a front page report and two seperate pages in the newspaper, as well as two seperate petitions.

So what do other people think about the fate of the Redcliffe Railway line?

Hey Mitchey.

There's an election comming up what would you expect ?

It gets a run every now and then, get out the salt shaker ,or better still get a bag of the stuff__a pinch won't go far enough.

As far as I'm lead to believe, the 'corridor' for the rail line has been in place for approximately 20+ years, but the powers that be, have now quietly whispered in dark alley ways, that it'll become a 'bus only' route, not a rail line as originally proposed. It seems Caloundra and Maroochydore (!) are to get a new line to them, but the long suffering people of Redcliffe and surrounds, are to go without - once again.

Thanks

Perhaps though it may go deeper then just another suggestion this time, and Muliebuck, it was recently decided that Heavy Rail was the prefered mode of transport for the corridor.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I know that I am not the only one who is looking out for this railway. Even my friends are!

I live at Redcliffe, but I'm sure it's not me...

As for a railway to Kippa-Ring, the intended terminus near Redcliffe, it's something that's been brought up at every election since 1990 (when I first moved here), but no one has yet to commit to it, mainly due to the costs involved. It's like we don't count for much, though after the stink we kicked up over the stupid three lane bridge between Clontarf and Sandgate reaching capacity earlier than planned for, and a new one being built at the moment, we might have a bit more sway this time around.

They had thrown around the idea of using the rail corridor set aside for the rail line as a dedicated busway, but that idea got squashed...

Oh dear the sorry saga of the Redcliffe railway this has been going on for at least a 100 years! Back in the 1980's we had Shady Lane then Minister of Transport in the National Party government solemnly promise that if reelected the line would be built, all the land had been bought etc, all ready to go. government reelected and nothing happened. It's a sure way to drum up few votes in the Reddy area. Really if it was ever going to be done the time may hve been then. It would be good to see it happen but getting less likely. Guess I won't believe till I see the 1st train roll out of Petrie.

hey mitchey
i hope your a young fellow, because you'll be a very old man when they get this up and running. now correct me if i'm wrong are'nt they going to build a second road bridge to redcliffe

cheers,
patchy

Yeah, Patchy, thats right. I actually walked across the first bridge they built (its now a pedestrian bridge) yesterday. (Wednesday)

It seems silly, eh. They build a brand new bridge (The 3rd and newest one currently under construction) because the second (Current Road Bridge) is too congested. But if the railway went ahead, then the people using the bridge would drive to Kippa-Ring Railway Station, instead of crossing the Bridge to Sandgate Station.

Then we had all the mess-up with the widening of Anzac Avenue. I go to Grace College, so I watched the road being widened every day. And the traffic was bad. But even with the new T2 lanes, hardly anyone uses them!

Once again, the railway could've easily fixed the road congestion, but no. Holding up school traffic, commuters and other vehicles such as buses in the morning at 8 O'clock was a much more attractive option...

I noticed this 'old' thread and it's interesting to read all your comments on the "Proposed Redcliffe Railway Line"

Well you guys were right,... it took a Government and a Local Council election to rustle-up sufficient funds to actually lay the tracks down. Everything is now going according to plan, six new stations have been constructed, catenaries are in place, electricity is surging through the cables while they do 'test-runs' up and down the line, and the Redcliffe Line is due to officially open within a couple of months.

I can't wait to ride the rails to Petrie and back. Because I'm a member of the Historical Society, I could get an 'invite' on the 1st Official Train run. The Council were talking about running a 'Steamer' on the day as well, so It'll be an 'Historic Moment' when it actually happens.

It's come to fruition! Here's a video clip of the rail testing on the new Redcliffe Line.

I just heard an update over local Redcliffe radio from our Federal Minister Luke Howarth that the Redcliffe Line will actually be opened in July 2016. No exact date has been published.

I'm looking forward to this - we've waited long enough.
Cheers,

With only one month to go before the opening of the Redcliffe Line, we have been informed that it will be postponed indefinitely because the signalling didn't meet the QR standards. It's back to the drawing board; or as a rate-payer knows, they probably need some extra capital to finish the job properly.

We've waited over 100 years for our railway, a couple more months will be nothing new.
Cheers,
