Red signals at points (switches)

Hello all.

I am new to Trainz and thought I'd go ahead and try building my first route, however I have hit a rather large snag!

When I place a signal in front of a set of points it remains permanently red, even when the route ahead is set correctly. I have tried EVERY signal type that comes with the original Trainz 2010 download and it's the same story with all of them. I have also tried moving the signal closer to and further away from the points, no change.

This issue may also explain why I get stopped outside Vermont station at a permanently red signal when using the Razorback Railway scenario that comes with Trainz 2010.

Am I meant to add some setting to 'attach' the signal to the points so it knows what to do?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks - Glen

When there are no trains facing or even close to the signal such as miles away, the signals turn red and when you put the cursor over the signal it says no train approaching. nothing to worry about.:D

Thanks for your reply. When I have AI trains running, they stop and stay there, that's the problem.

Is your signal too close to the points?

Move it back a bit.

The usually placement is like this:

-----X---\---X-------------
..............\--X-------------

The X = signals.

The X on the far left is facing away from the points.
The X's on the right face to the right.

The row of stops is to move the slash mark over to the right.

Hope this helps. I'm not good at drawing in the forum interface.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I seem to have corrected the problem with your suggestions of moving the signals forward and back a bit. I was also unaware that signals near points acted as 'controlled' signals and not 'automatics' as they remain red untill a train passes the previous signal, approaches and is offered a route.

Anyway, they are working now and so I am able to continue with my route.

Thanks again for your help people, I'm sure I will be back with more questions as my building progresses!

Regards - Glen.

Glen,

The long red signal occurs when the tracks beyond do not have signals. I had that happen today. The signal was red for an inordinately long time. When I moused-over the light, it said that the track ahead was unsignaled. Adding a signal further down the line fixed it.
