Read Only

I recently moved my TS2009 routes and assets from a PC running Windows XP to a laptop running Windows Vista. I now find that on the laptop I cannot save either a new route or any work on a current route I get the message "Cannot save a read only file, try saving under another name," but this does not work either. I have also tried unsetting the 'Read Only' tick box in properties, but each time I attempt to save it defaults back to 'Read Only'

Can anyone please advise me

Thanks

My advice is to save the edited route under a new name or put a 2 after the name. Then delete the old read-only route and then you can rename the new route to the old one's name. The new route shouldn't be Read-only anymore.

I think Trainz makes transferred routes Read-only, since I had the same problem when moving content between computers. My tip is that if you can, copy the old route to a CD, DVD, flash drive, or external hard drive, then import the route and/or content through CMP. Or even better, save the route as an archive or CDP, then import it. That is, if you still have acess to the old computer.

Good luck!

I've had this problem with a very large route of mine in TC, but I don't have it with TR09. The route was transferred into both (I've been building it for years). I assumed all along that it happened because the route is so large (140+Mbs). Strange thing is, it saves perfectly well with autosave while I'm working on the route. Another thing, when I did a "save as", the session sometimes got copied to another route!

As for TR09, I thought it was one of those little things that had finally been corrected...

If you haven't already:
Try running all Trainz exe files in Administrator mode.
Try disabling UAC.

Trainz stores its data files in its program files folder, which Vista objects to.

Thanks for the advice. First kill under Vista was UAC, and I always run as Admin.

I have the prob in TC only with the very large route; the rest are fine. I still assume it was a sware issue that Auran seems to have corrected. Of course, I don't use tr09 much at the moment, so the problem could surface there at some stage. Has anyone had the prob with tr09?

I had a large route. ( I still have it somewhere) :) and I needed at least 20gig of free space to save the route. The route was only 150meg+ but it needed all that free space to process the saving.

I hope that helps.

I figured out what needs to be done, I just did the same thing and installed '06 on my new laptop with vista.
You need to go into the programs x86 folder right click on the Auran folder and select properties, you need to select and edit the user properties of the folder so it allows you to make changes to it select ok and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the help. I've tried the read only trick and on a first go it seems as though it might work, except that Vista (re)sets all folders to read only... (Helpful Microsoft, again.)

It's not a big issue, more a curious anomaly. I mean, TC can autosave the layout while I cannot save it manually.
