Re-skinning and other issues

I'm re skinning austin316hockey's CPR passenger stock for my GN, but have found some issues. (like I don't think they're on the DLS anymore)
For one, I got about half way done, and suddenly Images 2 TGA starts destroying my images when I save them. Comes out looking like bad television reception. I used the same method that successfully made it that far, what gives?

One (RPO, kuid:316:10026) I carried all the way to the end (accepting the small skin issues that I'm no longer able to correct), converted all the .TEXTURE files to TGA and removed said .TEXTURE files and checked with CMP; No errors, No warnings. Committed it, and all works okay except I lost the little green "Ind" check mark that appears in the thumbnail when selecting. I can live with it of course, but just don't understand how I lost it.

Thanks in advance,

Brad,

What are the specs of your system? Perhaps this is a video driver issue.

Have you tried running the program using Open/GL instead of DirectX, or vise versa?

The green check-mark may have been on the thumb-nail. If you removed the thumb-nail then this is gone.

Scrambled TGAs...

I've done a lot of skinning using TGAs for games such as Flight Simulator, Empire: Total War, and Bridge Commander. I've often found that just using Photoshop can be the most trouble-free way of handling texture editing. It always pays to check, and double check, that the TGA is saved in uncompressed format and that alpha layers are edited correctly along with the main image, if they're being used at all. I'll dig up two links for you for the two editing programs that have always been of use to me whether for making the textures or for checking that they're all formatted properly. When I first started out there was much hair pulling from me because of similar odd problems.

Will get back tomorrow with the links (both programs were really very small downloads too, and free!)

Peace.

DXTBmp

Here's the link for the graphic editor I've had the most success with, it does a lot of handling of the files for you, can work with pretty much any graphic software out there. I hope this is of some help:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Editors/DXTBmp.shtml

Will also convert TGAs into Bmp format, which can sometimes be easier to manipulate, and automatically reconverts them on saving to the formats needed. Allows easy checking and editing of alpha images too.

Wishing you all the best.

Robertd81.
