RDC's as locomotives

Were RDC's ever used as locomotives for passenger trains? I am wondering if they would have pulled regular cars, instead of being used as both car and locomotive. I know that sometimes they are just used as coaches.

Wow! That is cool, to some degree it was done although not a common practice.
