Coconut God
Dateline 1935, Chicago Metro announces passenger service to Port Ogden!

"Izzatso?" says the PO&N road foreman, Joe "Dynamite" Dugan.
"Port Ogden & Northern announces passenger service to Chicago, take that you gangsters!"

Still got a few tweaks to work on, plus a PO&N C-41 passenger version, whole enchilada should be ready next week sometime.

Experiments in weathering

Got a tutorial for that here;

And said why not, railroads often demote older equipment from passenger service to freight service, so I cloned the F7s, deshined with PEV PM2IM, setting the specular for the passengers to 32-32-32 grey and the freights to 128-128-128 grey, then greased and rusted them up.

Tried something new, before being demoted to freight service some halfhearted attempts to clean it up and repaint it were started and never finished;

By the way, it ain't what it looks like;

This loco was not stolen from the PO&N, it fell off a truck and I found it on the street. ;)

Stop thief!

I actually stole that one from a similar symbol of a small west side street gang I belonged to as a kid, being the only surviving member who's not in jail or a nursing home I guess it does belong to me now. :p Meanwhile, back in Port Ogden, the country boys ain't taking this lying down;

Now both routes have steam and diesel passenger service, covers 1920s to 1960s. Any of you younkers wanna skin later era stuff don't be shy,

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=78154

Not really interested in modern newfangled stuff, so somebody else will have to do the Dash 9s and intermodals and an Acela Express HST in Chicago Metro colors. Or PO&N colors. :hehe:

This remembers me well onto “Cid Maier’s Rail Road Tycoon” like it was in its first version. I think this came up in about 1993 or 1992.

Cool looking screens!
As the locos and the cars are quite colourful it remembers me loosely onto a plastic railway made for children per haps with a turn key on top of the drivers cab to make the whole thing running through the nursery room.

Very nice to see the way you are enjoying trainz.

I lost the original disks years ago, but the first two versions are abandonware now;

http://www.oldgames.sk/en/games.php?search=railroad tycoon

So I still play Railroad Tycoon when the mood strikes me. :cool: Those are legal free downloads BTW, no crack or warez involved.

Thanks for the link ;-)

I once plaid the “original” version (not the deluxe version) as a mogul I think (just the one before the tycoon). I bought two other RRs (three is not possible as a mogul). I eventually became a president and I was very proud ;-)
I find the deluxe version is far more easy than the original one. I plaid the deluxe version about one year ago and started in 1835 as a tycoon. I was able to bye all other RRs and got it connected to each other and paid all bond back until about 1865!! There was no problem anymore to built the first transcontinental line until 1869 like in the real world. Such success was just impossible playing the original version I guess. So in my conclusion they did something change about the difficulties for the deluxe version.

Actually the original is easy if you focus on "tycoon" rather than "railroad". Forget the interest on the bonds, take out 3 or 4 bonds so you have a lot of cash. Build a short line between two cities, one train with passengers and mail. Now wait for other railroads to start, and when you get the news flash "boom times ahead" or whatever indicating improved economy, Call Broker and catch one of the other railroads rolling over his bonds - indicated by red numbers, like $853,000 or something. Start buying his stock as fast as you can, he'll have to buy new bonds and won't be able to keep up - hostile takeover when you have 60% of the stock. Then loot all his cash and sell a block, wait for him to buy more bonds and drive the stock price up, when he gets to 40% buy another block and take over again, he loses all his stock. Loot the cash, sell again, keep an eye on the calendar so you can sell out before the end of the fiscal year - when the stock drops from $63 per share to $1 per share beginning the next year someone else will be left holding the bag, you made an easy million. Buy it all up 100% and sell again, it won't drop below $10 per share so you get instant profit on the shares you buy at $2, $3, $4, etc. That's basically how robber barons like Jay Gould and Daniel Drew got rich, not by operating railroads but by manipulating the stock market.

That's what I'M talkin' about, UPLOAD THAT! GIMMEE GIMMEE! :cool: Then make a PO&N version, I know Phil likes them FP contraptions. :hehe: If that's what that is, FP45?

Its the JointedRail F40Ph so unfortunately I can not upload it. Most of my reskins will be on JointedRail payware units.

hert:wave:

Bummer. Well, that's why I restrict myself to stuff that's freeware AND on the DLS, makes it easier for the computer clueless to install and don't require playing hunt the KUID to make it work. I have a couple of Jointed Rail PO&N F7s on the DLS, they require dependencies that are only available from Jointed Rail, so I don't use them in sessions. More critical with TS12 multiplayer now, a TS12 multiplayer session wouldn't work at all with those locos.

While I was uploading, took some pictures, little tutorial for whackos like me who start skinning and can't stop without a 12 step program, how do I keep track of what I've uploaded and what I haven't yet?

First step is in the TS2010 or TS12 folder, find trainzoptions.txt and open in Notepad;

54142807.jpg

Add the line -ShowKuids at the bottom and save, now the KUID number of every asset you place in surveyor will be shown at the lower right corner.

71236102.jpg

Start with create new session, so the session is empty except for what you put in it. Set the content filter for My Content, then go down the list of your stuff - if it has a white KUID it's on the DLS, a red KUID means it's not. So place all recent repaints with the red KUID numbers, double check to make sure they're all red KUIDs;

62524337.jpg

Then save the session and exit. Open content manager;

52660243.jpg

Select the new session and right click, view dependencies, then hit the View in main list button.

97531367.jpg

Sort the list by clicking the Author button at the top, leaving out built in stuff like the coal and water and the route itself, you now have a list of what you haven't uploaded yet. I got a pretty slow DSL connection, so I split that into three sections before saving to CDP, then uploaded the CDP files to the upload page. I'd add a link for that but apparently they're tightening loose screws again cuz I get a timeout error on it now, but it's something like

https://www.auran.com/planetauran/YC_main.php?ProfileGroupID=0&Action=UploadListing

Looks like it's back up again. BTW;

Someone should tell them there are two "P"s in "Stopping", and the syntax is kinda clumsy, "Stopping files from being processed" would be closer to what they mean. :hehe:

Yeah, me like too. :cool: Not a big SD40 fan, like I say I'm more into first generation diesels but I know a lot of other people like newer stuff. Are those payware, or can you upload them?

Forgot to mention, all the stuff I pictured in this thread is now on the DLS, AKAIK all the wheels roll and bogies pivot and locos work with Raildriver in cab mode. Anyone finds bugs don't be bashful, can't fix it if I don't know it's broke. :wave:

well, SD45:o

just a guess, but those appear to be either JR or RRMods payware...though they could very well be the freeware SD45s from RRMods. Again, just a guess, hert will have to say definitevely.

(PS, didn't mean to correct you, but my inner rivet counter made me do it:hehe: Face it people, we're all rivet counters to one degree or another).
