You know why... search for every post about any train sim that is not Trainz, i feel shame about it

That's because this is a forum for "Trainz". It would make sense that most of the people here prefer Trainz over third party simulators. There are forums for these specific games, but this is a Trainz forum and you should expect to not get a positive look.

"Shortly after TS.com and UKTS.com banned discussion of IHH products" to the best of my knowledge there is no ban on www.trainsim.com about IHH, he probably knew better than to try to intimidate Nels.

Nels Anderson comes under constant criticism from both sides, some think he's too rigid and others too loose in his policies, but he operated flightsim bulletin boards long before the internet existed, so he just shrugs it off because he knows what he's doing. Some complain UKtrainsim is over moderated, some say US trainsim is under moderated, it's a thankless job and I personally don't worry about my critics, I call 'em as I see em.

I'll have to start a discussion on the Class 26 at TS and see what happens then!

I was amused by IKB's reference to UKTS as being "middle class". At times it seems to me more like a sixth form common room with a select few "head boys" lording it over everyone one else. Managed to upset them again last night with a few harsh but fair truths in the "Train Simulator 2012" thread. Followed from someone earlier implying that converting MSTS models to use in RW wouldn't be up to scratch or something like that. I and one or two others took exception to that and said so at which point I got accused by a moderator of trying to "drive a wedge" into the community. Strong words on a forum where every board is headed with warnings about not posting untruths. I have actually gone into MSTS boards, probably here as well with regard to Trainz and publically asked MSTS/Trainz developers if they would consider converting their stuff over to RW to increase the amount of freeware. Far from driving a wedge, I see that as trying to unite the communities.

I do wonder after events like that why I bother to continue posting at UKTS. Guess the vain hope that they might change one day or I'm just a glutton for punishment. :hehe:

To my mind UKTS is more akin to a parochial Parish Council; home of the self-righteous. It really puts me off.

I much prefer the internationalism of this place.

"I'll have to start a discussion on the Class 26 at TS and see what happens then!"

It probably WILL end up locked or deleted, not because of any policy but because the fanboys will start screaming about - well, about whatever you say. I never can figure out what sets these people off, do they hand out free copies of RW as therapy in mental hospitals? Anyway Zippee will report it, a moderator will edit or delete whatever offended Zippee, Nels or Rick will come along later and decide he don't want to deal with it so the whole smash disappears. No, you don't know Zippee, he logs in only long enough to sit on the alert button for every criticism of RW, he's never made a post or contributed anything himself. A secret alias for an RSC employee? Why, what would make you think such a thing? :hehe:

Well now I'm tempted just to buy RW to get into the fray on their forums, or can you join without buying?:D

RS.com don't have any forums of their own*, UKTS is the unofficial-official forums. The steam forums are also semi-official, although Derek & Adam openly mock the steam forum users when they're on other forums.

Anyone is free to go sign up on UKTS and post, I wouldn't personally recommend it though, and certainly wouldn't recommend trolling or flaming there, they're over-heavy on moderation as it is (and as a new user, you'll have to have all posts moderator-approved for 20-30 posts anyway).

* They used to have official forums, but took them down because they couldn't keep discussion positive enough even with heavy moderation.

I wonder if IKB is a fan of Amy Winehouse.

She was found dead in London today. Only 27 years old.

Regards,

Oh no! Now I'll have to explain my whereabouts again!

Seriously though, those forums sound tasty. Perhaps I'll join and see if I can pass the rigorous moderation for awhile...

Well I suppose I expected that recent level of answer from IKB and I have made allowances for him being excited by the primary school holidays (althopugh he would be sivelling if he was up hear mouthing!).

Anyway to more interesting situs. The death of Winehouse is no surprise. She was getting away with just about anything in the present day world brainwashed by people of little talent put into the limelight and cannot handle it. Obviously any untimely death is in itself a sad thing but I do hope we are not going to get folk with breast beating and wailing giving us nonsese about how much of a loss she is now she is gone. It was a self-inflicted lifetyle and she cocked a snoot at anything or anyobne so we have no responsibility for her. I can just imagibne the entertainment journalists in tabloids going on about how much of a loss, bla, blah. She gave little to positive society and is another of those doubtful people who wreck the idea of role models by the famous. We will get lots of sycophantic nonsense now she is gone. Apart from feeling sorry for her strained family, she contributed little but court cases, damaging her herself and listening to no-one. She was given prominence beyond her capabilities.

Looks like at least one more drug dealer will be signing on the dole in Camden.
(wonder if Camdens 'Bargain Booze' will have to close now)

Hi Everybody. just returned from that bl***Y wedding which was everything I expected it to be, boring and full of terrible speeches advising how wonderful the bride and groom where ( it is his third time of marrying). However, it was there I heard of the death of Mary Winehouse which made up some more interesting conversation at the reception.

once again rjhowie sums up what many of us must feel about her death. I would only differ in one respect. Mary Winehouse had the gift of a wonderful voice which she could at times link to a great on stage performance. When she appeared here in Somerset at the Glastonbury Festival a couple of years ago I felt it was one of the greatest performances of her career (I was not actually there, I would not dream of going, like millions I watched it on the TV) However, even in that moment of triumph she degraded everything with her offstage outrageous behavior. Like many young people success and wealth can come too early into their lives and quite simply they are too immature to handle the situation. However, let us remember her for the gifted talent she possessed in her wonderful voice and forget everything else which detracted from that so we can enjoy her music into the future. Bill

The new upgrade is called Railworks Train Simulator 3 just like Railworks 2. Also the night sky and moving sky has been with the game since rail simulator. There is a lot of stuff going on over at Railworks america as in free files we are getting there but slowly. But at one good thing is that Railworks dont charge for every upgrade like trainz does. They care about there people.
One thing i hate about trainz is you pay for every update. Then they are still using the same game engine for years with no changes. Also still rely on the 3rd party creators to make all the stuff for there game. I like both games but trainz needs to give people update with out having to pay for it. I also understand they have to make money but they really need to make big changes instead of little changes and then calling it TRS2012 which should just been a update.

Yea thats true it seems like every year you all have to pay for a update. Which i dont get why.

The updates are free. They are called Service Packs. Feature add-ons and great changes mean a new version. It addition, it appears that you've come a long quite late in the game here. However, let me say that this practice is not uncommon in the software industry. When a developer works on an SP versus a new version, there are really two things happening. The SP is used to take care of immediate problems that were noted during beta-testing or afterwards, but were never included in the software release. These are considered non-issue problems that won't cause the program to crash completely, but are more annoyances and bugs that can be solved later. Thus, the service packs.

While the SPs cover the interim need, the group is also working on a new version that includes the bug-fixes and adds on new stuff. Hopefully, while doing this, it doesn't break something else at the same time.

When a full version of a program comes out, such as Trainz TS12 versus TRS2009, or TS2010, there are many changes that have gone into the program including major feature add-ons, major bug-fixes, new interface designs, and other under-the-hood changes we never may see, but are there. This is what happened essentially with TS2009 to TS2010. There were many under-the-hood changes that went into the program, and when the final release of TS2009 was supposed to be the Engineer's Edition, the marketing guru's thought they'd call it something else TS2010, and they through in Speed Treez. This maybe how it went, maybe not, but usually this is the case. I've lived through this process many times in the support world.

The other thing too, you say that the code is the same from version to version. This is true with any software program. Microsoft for example, has used the same codebase for NT as it did for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and so-on. There have been improvements over the years, but the programs under there are still the same. You don't believe me? Open a command prompt and type chkdsk and hit enter. Look at the copyright information. Chkdsk has been around in its current form since about 1994. The commands are still the same, and the screen still looks the same, although the latest versions of the program have some additional information on them.

As I said in the beginning, this is not unusual in the software industry. Adobe does it with their CS Suite, so does Microsoft, Corel, Bryce, and numerous other programs we use and purchase. Sometimes, as time goes on, it is necessary for a complete rewrite of the base code because there are now so many add-ons, patches and fixes that the underlying probably looks like an old alley cat that just came in from a fight! This now becomes an even more drawn-out process where the program is written from scratch. The developers may take some old stuff, perhaps an interface design, but much of the code is rewritten. This is a very long and very expensive process, and this is probably why, if N3V is doing this, we haven't seen a new game engine yet.

You see this as a money maker for the company. Why not? N3V has salaries and benefits to pay out, the utilities to cover, taxes to the state and government, unemployment benefits into the pool, rent on the office, and other fees that go into running a business. They are not a group of developers sitting in a garage writing code for the fun of it. Although, writing the code for Trainz maybe fun for them while they get paid. :)

Iam confused why you come on this forum. Obviously you refer to "us" vs "them" argument. I dont get why both cant exist? And I can say personally that TS12 came with plenty of new content. I rather pay $50 bucks for a so called "upgrade" then get one for free that has a few assets and the rest comes in over-priced DLC packs. That may or not work in feature "free upgrades."

I can see why people in the UK choose Railworks over Trainz. Railworks is catered to them, and includes a large amount of content for the UK. And Trainz 12 didnt really offer too much new UK assets.

I do find it funny that your so much of a Railworks fanboy that you will probably be proclaiming how great they are, even if Railworks 3 turns into a slightly more fluff version of Railworks 2.

And by the way many people enjoy both sims so its not a "us" vs "them". Nor does any one opinion express the whole community opinion a subject.

Just my thoughts

I just read, and the last two pages browsed, all 11 pages. My head is doing a tiny bit of spinning so please excuse this very wobbly post as I point out the few things I was thinking as I was spun around and around like the tea cups at Disney World.

I'm excited in a way for this update for I just bought Railworks 2 a few weeks ago for 9USD on the Steam Sale and it feels like " Oh well I was sorta disappointed with this cheap game.. but now their going to make out with me and make it all better."

Now for all the haters on Steam... Psh you're all insane if your afraid of it closing down or security problems. This is freakin' Valve you're talkin about. The guys who worked with the FBI when Half Life 2 was leaked and then set up plots to capture the guy, the company that released successful games like Portal freakin 2, and whose getting like a 5% interest or something from all sales which consider the hundreds of games on there and thousands of pieces of DLC... their sitting rich... They won't be closing soon. Security issues... did I mention working with the FBI before and has a well known history or being able to scare hackers off with a simple glare from Gabe Newell.... that might just be a legend but it sounds just as awesome as Chuck Norris.

As I spin a bit more, someone mentioned MSTS 2 being dead and no threat from them... Incorrect. The ACES team reformed not longer after to create Cascade Game Foundry. This would be nothing but after their game being yanked out from under their feet and from all the " previews" shown behind closed doors it's sounding like they've got a train simulator in the works again. It won't be called MSTS 2 but it is from them and they seem very focused on making a train simulator like their flight franchises. Then again when they first started off someone mentioned a scuba diving game was also shown in the various video clips for the press.

I think this is where I'll get off, try and stabilize my brain, and read replies to this tomorrow when I feel more... well stable.

I'm off to see the wizard..." The Wiizaard" with my Idle Thumbs and play some Far Cry 2, where I assume a grenade will roll down a hill and puffins will appear.

:hehe: Yeah I think I need sleep.
