Suppose you are right regading the odd discussion which I always find bemusing because we do with the best will in the world when discussing the merits of competition have parameters due to the hobby and the same issues will therefor keep getting brought back. It is a cycle that is never ending RW v Trainz but there again i live in Glasgow and Rangers FC v Celtic FC are never ending too! You can't help feeling sorry for Partick Thistle fans in the middle. Wittering on is no great evil as long as you say Vern and the boots don't get put on and spoil the harmony of the forums.

I've been analyzing it, despite typing all gripes about RW with only 3 fingers and making sure the pinkie remains rigidly extended on both hands the fanboys still have a hissy fit whatever I say. Here's what you can safely say about railworks without getting a bunch of flak in response;

"Biscuits, biscuits, biscuits, biscuits. Cucumber sandwiches. Biscuits biscuits biscuits. Tee-hee-hee."

Saying that draws similar responses, say anything else and they all have a conniption fit.

Same goes for Trainz Jim..:hehe:

Hi Everybody.

As a supporter of the world's greatest football team (Man U) I have to enquire who are Partick Thistle. Coming think about it who are Celtic and Rangers?.:hehe:

To get back on topic, I think there is a growing divergence between Trainz and Railworks, in that Trainz is becoming very America driven both in the game and on the forum. I have to say I have nothing against that in any way, and can understand the market for N3V would be much greater in the states at this time than Europe.

On the other hand Railworks is much more European orientated and within that very much British in the content. As someone who is interested primarily in British railways I find myself gradually spending more time with Railworks than Trainz. The foregoing is also because of a shortage of free time at present, but that's another matter

I have also started visiting their forum where I see many previous contributors to this forum. Again that could be because of all the British and European content within Railworks that has taken them their. I have only visited the forum at present and have yet to contribute as I am just “gaining the flavour of debate" over there.

Therefore, I believe there is a growing divergence between the two simulators, content creators and forum contributors. That in the future may reduce the number of Trainz V Railworks threads that continuously come up on this forum

Just out of curiosity, where do you see all the European content in RW? Sure, lots and of British and some German stuff but Europe has so much more: in no particular order - Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Swiss, Polish, Russian, Italian, Austrian, etc And then there is the rest of the world, Chinese, Indian, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa, etc.

The biscuits thing is Derek's very non-subtle method of distracting conversation away from a negative issue that he doesn't want to talk about (for all his claims of not 'officially representing RS.com' on the forums, he pretty much does).

Sadly there are a few idiots that think it's 'funny' to go off on a biscuits tangent, so whenever derek uses it, it tends to stick.

Well, in fairness, there are a couple of very nice french locos, including a beautiful broken-nose model, which I believe has been repainted into Dutch, Spanish and Portugese liveries (the RW community seems to be at the 'ignore gauge issues and just be happy for anything we can get' stage). There are also some Spanish repaints of the class 37, and a Dutch repaint of the class 58.

Personally, I'd argue that most of it is cheating, especially the repainted UK classes that have been used in europe - they were never used as main locomotives. And while the non-french Alstom broken-noses always look similar, it's on par with the 'DB101 repainted as a class 90' that railworks had for a long time - it might be good enough if you're not familiar with the local equipment, but it just looks comical if you are.

One would hope that N3V are keeping a very close eye on copyright breach by RW. Train Simulator 2010 is so close to TS12 that it is damm near criminal.

As i stated in my posting German, French, Swiss But British Mainly is where my interest is and what probably many others would consider the main european railways.

Some may not agree

But probably not close enough to BE criminal, either way, it'd have to go before a judge to find out, and it would hinge on whether or not the judge felt that an average purchaser (of a train simulator product, remember) would be confused between 'trainz simulator 12' and 'train simulator 2012 : Railworks 3'.

Quite honestly, I doubt it would go in N3V's favour, although I personally think it's a very sleezy and bad move on RS.com's part - it might, however, partly be a retaliatory move against Just Trains and their re-badging of TS12 as 'Railway Simulator'.

Is it TS2012 or TS12?

Part of the problem is the accepted form for Trainz 12 is "TS12", so named because it's the 12th version, nothing to do with the year 2012. Yet people persist in calling it "TS2012" and even "TRS2012". Confusion will come in because the railworksers are already calling RW3 "TS2012" even before release.

"but you can hear the birds singing in the route, in fact the birds are a little bit louder than the train"

What, they didn't tell you? It was originally a birdwatching simulator that got converted to run trains, that's why all the emphasis on scenery over operations. :hehe:

Funny thing, I did a search for "cucumber" to find the RSC employee who started talking about cucumber sandwiches (wasn't Derek, it was someone else) in an update thread, couldn't find it but found this;

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewto...=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=cucumber&start=15#p1382833

Pretty good summation of the problem by Vern. The libel threats didn't come from RSC, they came from a railworks vendor, but from 2007 to 2010 (what I call "The Wasted Years") any post about a problem was either attacked or sidetracked and derailed by irrelevancies. The Trainz community does have a few prissy Pollyannas who want to piss in your ear and tell you to pretend it's raining, but nowhere near the sheer number (at least brigade strength) in the railworks community. I find that most people here are all about honestly discussing problems and finding solutions, the cheerleader types are a much smaller percentage.

12th version? I only count 10, 11 if you included the 2 different package's of the 1st version. Am I missing some?

peter

one, two, sixteen, eleventy-seven...

Beats me, I can't count to 12 without taking my shoes off and adding toes to fingers. That's what I heard tho, possibly they're counting stuff like TC 1, 2, and 3 individually. DLS only has 10 versions listed. Are they including stuff like "My First Trainz" in the count?

Lets see, there is:
Trainz (Beta, not counted)
Trainz CE
Trainz
UTC
TRS2004
TRS2006/7
Trainz Driver
TC1*
TC2*
TC3*
TS2009 WBE
My 1st TRZ
TS2010 EE / TR2010
TS iPad
TS2012/Mac**

*These could be counted as one "Trainz Classics"
**TSMac is just TS12 on a Mac.
Unless I count the Beta (or Mac seperately), I either count 14 or 11 versions.

A dear friend recommends RW versions over Trainz ... I read most of you guy's comments; But I am more confuse now more then ever ... I don't even know how many toes I have ...LOL ...

For or against ... what's really the big deal between RW's ad Trainz?

Thanks in advance!

I doubt it, we've had "Railway Simulator" as the key part of the UK product name since our first version (2004), although kept with Auran's name, which didn't mention 'railway/railroad' for 2010 (and based on the feedback from that from customers and retail, have gone back to our original Railway/Railroad naming for the latest one)

It always makes me smile to see posting such as the above. Unless you are an international Corporation the size of Microsoft, Google, Apple or Samsung just to mention a few, then to consider legal action across international borders is totally out of the question.The financial cost would undoubtedly be crippling to a company less than the above and therefore it just does not happen.

The speech to text software that is producing this posting is entitled " Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11". Is some other company with 11 in the title of some other software going to sue nuance for that.

It's ridiculous

That was in my "angry" years, Jim. Having turned 50 Monday just gone, the "rage meter" has reset for another ten years and I'm all mellow again. :cool: At the end of the day they're all just games, just as some people play Mass Effect or prefer Fallout (I like both). It will be nice to see what RW3 eventually delivers, the biggest frustration at the moment is not knowing if it's really worth progressing any more route work until the autumn.

I do agree though that sidestepping discussions with references to biscuits etc. does get a bit tiresome at times and we still can't discuss RW proucts from IHH (which always makes me think of the US International House of Pancakes, for some reason) on UKTS.

The over 50 club!

Happy birthday and welcome to the old geezers club, I turned 58 on the 24th of last month, my first great-grandson was born on June 30th, so I'm officially an ancestor now. :'(

To me this sort of thing was always typical;

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=314&t=117100&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=630#p1443533

Freeware content creator wants to know how future developments will affect what he's creating, typical response from footy fans;

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=314&t=117100&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=630#p1443653

You don't need to know, you should be happy to accept whatever you get regardless how much work you have to do in the future to react to any changes. And then they complain about lack of freeware content, since the cheerleaders ragging us about complaints and questions are rarely freeware creators themselves.:clap:

At ish;

"A dear friend recommends RW versions over Trainz"

I'm way too obnoxious to be anyone's dear friend, but my recommendation is "whatever trips your trigger". Strictly a matter of personal taste. for those who enjoy hopping into a train to "have a run" and admire pretty scenery, don't care about AI traffic or headlight projecting at night, Railworks will do what you want. Someone says "I don't care about headlights or route creation, I just want working windshield wipers!" Go Railworks, allegedly Trainz has SOME locos with working windshield wipers, I haven't found one yet.

For route developers it's more complicated even if you have no intentions of setting up sessions with AI traffic interaction - RW has some beautiful tools and the best world editor, most people say trainz surveyor is easier to use but I find the opposite. Tracklaying tools in RW are a breeze and the switches are usually a work of art, paint the terrain with a procedural flora texture and there's no need to plant weeds and grass since that grows in 3D right out of the ground paint. But. Copy and paste are more complicated and more limited, no way at all to merge route modules, there are a lot less free scenery assets to choose from.

RW goes on super dirt cheap sale occasionally, the best way to find out if it will suit your needs or not is to try it and see. It doesn't do what I want it to do, but;

I am not everybody and Everybody is not me.
