Quick (hopefully) Single Line Signalling Question

I know that signalling has been covered in tutorials and this forum but I cannot seem to find a direct answer to these questions, this is probably due to my lack of knowledge on how things work prototypically but here goes:

1 - I have a long section of bi-directional single line track. In order to run trains in both directions under AI and manual control I have built in passing loops. Should the signals for the passing loops be at the entry and exit of the loop, or just at the exit?

2 - Where a single line terminates at a station it will invariably branch off into sidings and platforms, should a single multiple signal on the single track section prior to the junction(s) guard the various off-shoots or should each off-shoot have its own signal? In which case, should these be placed facing both directions (in other words signalling both inbound and outbound trains?

Thanks

You would want three signals at the junction, a two or three aspect facing the divergence, a single aspect (usually) on the other side facing opposing traffic on the straight track, and then a two or three aspect signal on the siding before it converges back into the main

Thanks both, Justinroth when you mention the two or three aspect for the sidings is that for trains entering or exiting the sidings?

If you are running both AI and player trainz on a single track section with passing loops, see here:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/show...-a-Mexican-Standoff-with-Player-and-AI-trainz

To see it in operation, download one of my routes and sessions that use this technique. Search the Download Station with "philskene" as the author.

Interesting, presumably this would then not be required for consists running under driver commands or autopilot, only for trains under full manual control? I normally run using driver commands so that I can switch to external view easily.
