I apologize if these are dumb questions, I couldn't find answers in search.

I'm running Trainz2010

1) The multi-industry: I changed the amount produced and consumed, but it doesn't save. Stays that way until I quit the game and come back in.

2) I have the same problem with some rules. Like Inputtable and the command to operate a turntable. I can add them, go into driver to test them, they work, but when I exit the game and come back I have to add them again.

3) I'd like to set something up where I can pick up coal at a mine (for example) take it to a storage area, drop it off and as needed I can load it from there and make deliveries. That's what I'm using the multi-industry for, is there a better way.

And

4) I like the American Orient Express train except for the lack of actual windows. I noticed the Canadian Northern has similar cars, but also see-through windows. Would it be possible for me to somehow copy the AOE skins onto the CN cars to have the best of both worlds?

Hopefully I can answer these questions.

Try setting up the industries in sessions instead of in the route-editing mode of Surveyor. I have found that when configuring driver schedules and such, that the settings don't "take" if in Edit Route instead of Edit session.

You can easily modify an item.
Using CM3.2, Clone the item first which will make a copy of it so you don't destroy the original.

Open up the cloned copy using Open for Edit in Windows Explorer. (This is an option on the edit menu and the contextual menu. Click on the item an choose from the Edit menu, or right button click and choose it from the list.

This will bring Windows Explorer with a view of the contents that make up the asset such as the mesh files and the *.tga files.

Now in order to edit the texture files, you'll need to use image-editing software such as PaintShop Pro, Gimp, and PhotoShop.

When you're done editing, you need to close the window, and commit the asset to the database again before it'll show up in the program.

Committing is done by highlighting the object, and pressing CTRL+M.

Hope this helps answer your questions, and perhaps sparks some others.

Thanks for answering. I can't wait to get off work to try this.

It did spark one question though. If I set something up in sessions, then go back to make adjustments in the route editor, will I have to set it back up in sessions? I admit I don't fully understand route/sessions. I assumed route is where you set up your layout, then sessions is just to use it.

Yes that is right, do all your setting up when you load the session then when sorted click on 'quick drive' and everything you have set up will be saved. If you have to change something click on 'exit driver' and you will be taken back to the session where you can do your alterations then go back into 'quick drive'.

Okay, I got that right then. But does that mean I have to re-set everything up every time I go back to route-editor. I'm kind of playing/building at the same time.

Some I can handle, but things like my schedule library got long and then disappeared when I exited (even after saving) and came back in. That will eventually be a pain to re-enter.

Again, sorry for the noobness, this is all pretty new to me.

All right. I really am dumb. :-P I was editing in surveyor and always creating a new session. I just now noticed I can go to routes, then sessions, and keep working on one that saves everything each time, like the rules and such.

I thought sessions were nothing more than play sessions and never bothered focusing on them since I didn't think there was a point to it until my layout was complete. :o

You're not dumb, Zygon. TS2010 makes the session thing a little more confusing than it should be, in my opinion.

When I'm editing my route like placing objects, trains, etc. I never save a session even when prompted.

When I'm ready to create a schedule and configure loads, stations, etc. I will do this from within the session editor only. It's at this point I save the session when prompted to on exit.

In some ways this is more like how the previous version of Trainz used to work only they did this behind the scenes instead of making this a two-step process.
