This is a noob question, but in surveyor in Trainz 12 how do u place crossing gates?
Placing crossing gates is easy.
Gates are scenery items that the track and roads attach to. There are two way, depending upon whether the track is there first, or if the track is in and you want to put in a crossing later.
Method 1 for putting in a crossing.
1) Ensure the terrain is smooth where you want to place the crossing.
2) Place your crossing and rotate it so it's oriented in the correct position.
3) Connect your track to the crossing on either side.
4) Connect your road to the road sides.
Method 2 for putting in a crossing later.
1) Same as above. Ensure the terrain is smooth.
2) Orient the crossing and rotate it until the track lines up where the track should connect.
3) In the Track spline tool, chose the insert spline point under the Advanced menu.
4) Put a spline point on either side of the crossing where you want to place the crossing.
5) Now cut the middle out between the two spline points.
6) Connect up the track on either side.
7) Connect the road.
For more realism, you might want to place whistle posts before the crossing gates. These are found under Track Objects, which is the second tab in the Track tools.
Note: There are some roads that work better than others with the crossings. YARN and BNSF50 roads work great, particularly with the BNSF crossings.
