How large a route is too large?

I've been having grey outs where the land resets in the middle of my route, I've lost weeks of work lately. I've been saving my work as, save as 180501 dates. Three times I had to delete and go back to the later date.
I'm wondering if the route is too large and I should trim it down.

The answer to that depends on your system RAM (the more the better) and how much free HDD/SDD space you have, and you could probably throw in a few other factors as well.

The maximum size allowed for uploading a route to the DLS is, I believe, 512 MB but I do not know of any that big.

Users have reported, in other threads, of building routes 100MB or more in size without any problems. My largest DLS upload had about 300 km of trackage and was about 50MB in size.

There are several different ways of measuring the size of a layout but the number of baseboards is probably a more useful guide.

Pware explained well but I will add more things: it depends on how much assets you’ve put, if you placed a lot of highly detailed trees then you will have troubles but yeah it depends on your PC configuration but a route can be extremely long I mean take a look at the huuuge ECML route

If you are experiencing difficulties, please let us know which game you are playing and what the build number is of that game. Maybe you are just missing a patch or people know about a specific problem with that build and can help you out.

Please also post future support questions in the related support forum so people don't have to guess for which game the question is.

Actually it's my route, my first, I went with a sci-fi MMO trading route theme. Its on another planet, two large cities, one next to a large man made lake, the other city is on a shoreline of a large sea. both have good harbors. Shuswap Southern Rail and Space-way Corp.connects the cities, the mainline is through two mountain ranges with a valley between them 2-4% grades. The northern city is on the lake with a large river valley it's called Salmon Arm and the southern city, Squilax, has a harbor on a sea and also has a Space port. It takes 2.75 hours to drive a train between the cities, 100 car triple steam coal train with two in the middle and two at the end lugging it over steep grades with the sound cranked, sounds great. Year and a half and the track is done, including 80% of the branch lines. I've done most of painting and just starting the track side stuff, then this problem hit. Version 1.0 will be lightly done and uploaded for free.

It was fun learning to build it, taking more time redoing of the old sections, anyway I use to paint with oils so I decided I would paint a route. After I upload S.S.R&S v1.0 I think I will work on another planet, most likely a star system next door. The planetary AI is really into steam on the mainline, long sidings for long trains. :hehe:

Well I already looking for a new gaming pc, just have decide $ and RL ratio. I'll try to post some picks after I figure out my time line for a new machine.
