Question regarding YARN/YARNish intersections

I'm a bit stumped by this, so maybe someone will have an answer or a fix.

On all of the YARN/YARNish intersections (Maddy, thanks for all your hard work!), the preview shows that they have the traffic lights on them, yet when I place them, only the intersection shows up. Is there something I'm doing wrong or do I have to manually place the lights myself?

I asked the same question a couple of months ago, and it's really siomple. Use the ? button to access the properties of a specific intersection, then turn on/off traffic lights and stop signs, and street lights from there.

Thank you very much! I thought my only option was to to place them. And that would have led to only one thing. Me crying.

And now I'm crying. I have over 500+ intersections to adjust.

Can I get an easy button to do them all at once? =)

No, you're stuck doing them individually. I personally didn't mind that myself(but then I didn't have 500 of them installed) because I wanted some intersections configured differently than others.

Be aware that the intersection settings are stored in the Session data, not the route. After setting your 500 intersections up you MUST in future load the route for edit via 'Edit Session'. If you load the route directly your intersections will return to default settings. 'Edit Session' is the easy button to not have to do them all twice...

ACK!

If I merge the session and the route in TS 12, will that make a difference? I already despise having to proverbilly pay for the same real estate twice, but more than that, I'd end up doing flying ninja round house ice kicks on the computer and that'd be very bad.

While I can't speak for the newer programs and their layers (however I would believe this is still good practice) I always make a "default" session to go with any route I'm making. I tend to call it something like "Session Settings" or "Edit Me" and then I always start working from there. Then things like the YARN intersections and the ATLS systems (and maybe the Smart Signals) keep the settings I originally gave them.

From there if I want to make a session I do so from the Session Settings session and do a Save As (or in Trainz you just unclick "overwrite session" and put a new name in). That way any new sessions for actual running still get all the asset details needed.

Ugh. I firmly believe in K.I.S.S. Alas, I can see that's not going to be the case. I don't fool with layers or anything like that, so I'm not worried about that. Layers are best kept for Photoshop on this end. I guess some trial and error is in order. I don't understand why you just can't place objects, set them and leave it at that. All this sessions-route stuff is so confusing that I've basically given up on it. If it wipes out the stuff, oh well, I'll deal without.

I always hit edit session then merge it to the route before it start working on the the route and name it 1 then save overwrite both. so far its been working out

Well, so far, I've added a few items, save the route (default settings), and the YARN intersections have kept their lights and such. So, I must have done something right. I'll keep on playing around, saving frequently and see if anything changes. Most of the intersections are buried in the cities, and only a few are visible trackside, so it won't be the end of the world if they get jacked up. =)

So far, the computer hasn't suffered any kicks, so I'm happy. =)

it so easy,,,,, route layer is for track, buildings and land scaping
seesion is for to put train cars, engines, setting up indies, and yarn intersctions

I always thought the YARN road settings were decorative and had nothing to do with any session.

This is interesting...

To SHOPlanB - you are not any worse off

If you set the streetlights/stop signs/traffic lights as you placed each YARN intersection, it would take x seconds each time.

Doing the same thing after the fact on 500 intersections still takes x seconds per intersection - you might even be better off is that you will likely make better choices as you see how your route developed and what traffic control is appropriate. If there were an "easy button', I don't think you would want to make every intersection identical anyway (as nfitzsimmons commented).

With over 1000 hours in to the route currently, a few more hours really won't make that much of a difference. I don't plan on having every city have the same intersections. And I don't mind altering as I go along, heck, its a learning experience for me, and I certainly don't mind learning (wish I was that way in high school back in the 1800's...err...1980's).
