Question on Connecting two separate routes together

FIRE IN THE HOLE!

Sissy. :hehe: Open route for edit, Save As, give it a different name. Open the route you want to merge into it, change the name of the route layer, Save As, give it a different name. Exit surveyor, open clone of big route, merge clone of little route. If it explodes into a zillion springs and cogs and sprockets just delete it, the original route is untouched when you blow up a copy of the route.

OK, will give it a try. 3 cans of Red Bull first..... :cool:

Chugalug, and don't forget to yell FIRE IN THE HOLE!
It's not really necessary since bits and bytes don't actually explode, but it's more fun and scares the hell out of the neighbors.

I was once asked by a non-technical user if computers made noise when the crash. :cool:

To give you some confidence I was able to merge the eight sections of widowmaker's Paddington to Bristol route without any problems. Of course there were no industry tracks or stations, not even any point/junction levers, so that might have helped.

So I would say go for it and as sniper297 says as long as you are working with new versions of the routes you have nothing to lose.

Well, tried a dozen times to merge two routes, and finally gave up. I guess I must be missing a step someplace. I cloned both routes changing the names of the routes slightly. Changed the name of the route layer in the small route and saved it. Opened the main route selected merge, and now I get an orange colored box with apparently is the small route attached to the big route. I am guessing that there is no way to place the attachment point, that it is automatic. Then a box opens and it says to merge the two layers into one, which I did. I never get a check box on the bottom of the large box, it stays grayed out. The merge terrain button always stays red, and clicking on it does nothing. Same thing happens every time.

Yep, step you're missing is using the little triangle arrows to move the route being merged so you don't get the orange overlap.

Same here, until I click the little arrows grouped at the bottom to move the orange part so it's no longer overlapping;

Then I click the check mark icon which is no longer grayed out.

Ok, got that to work, got the check button to press, but then I guess I am running into the problem that TS12 has, because at the point when I click the check mark, a message pops up that Trainz has closed and do I want to send an error report in. Happened 3 times, so I guess that is the end of this experiment for now. Well at least I learned how it is done, if the program would cooperate.

That's the error. I contacted N3V Helpdesk immediately when I got the error just after TS12 came out. They are aware of the problem, but with no ETA for a fix at this time. Maybe, oh so much wishful thinking here, maybe there will be a patch soon(tm) that will fix this and a bunch of other little annoyances.

Or buy TS2010, merge the routes in 2010 and save to CDP, import into TS12 as a single route, shouldn't have to but if the smaller route being merged in is more than 20 baseboards or so that's the only way that works. The bonus for everybody is if Murphy's Law controls the kind of luck you have, the minute you buy TS2010 for that purpose the patch that fixes TS12 will come out. :eek: :hehe:

Yes, the route I am trying to merge is more than 20 baseboards, so I guess I will just wait for TS13 or TS14 or a patch.
