Question about early tracks

Hi,

I am currently creating content relating to the early broad gauge lines of the Grandduchy of Baden Railways, which existed between 1838 and 1854.

After extensive studies of railways in Britain, the engineers in charge of building the Baden railways decided to employ initially bridge rails and a few years later vignoles rails on longitudinal sleepers of timber.

My question is about the origin of these types of rail. During my studies on the subject I came across authors claiming that both types of rail were invented in the United States. The bridge rails by Strickland and the Vignoles type rail by Stevens. In the 1830s both types of rail were introduced into Britain by Brunel and Vignoles, respectively.

Other authors do not mention an american origin suggesting that these types of rail were actually invented by Brunel and Vignoles.

Does anyone know more about that matter?

Cheers,

Konni
