question about cab mode and DPU engines

As many will know I've been in Trainz for quite some time, over two years. I've driven in cab mode before, but when running a train that requires mid-train/rear end helpers, are these engines controlled by a separate driver in Trainz or are they under the control of the engineer up front? I know this is automatic when in DCC mode, but the for the particular train I want to recreate in Trainz I would prefer to drive in cab mode. Anyone be able to help out here?

I think that all locomotives in a DPU formation are all controlled by the same driver. I'm sure if you were to have separate drivers for each locomotive in the DPU and isolate those locomotives, im sure you can run it off its own power and push the train.

I seem to remember with a certain steam loco, when I went into the pusher's cab, the handles were not in the same position as the lead loco.

Jump into the cab of each loco to see what is going on.

Usually ... On a prototype (diesel), only the head end loco ... and the lead, rear end pusher, have crews, and the rest are computer or hose, remotely controlled (the exception being, is prototype steam locos, of course).

I've doubleheaded two of Ben Neals 2-8-8-2s with his 4-8-2 cut in ahead of the caboose one time. Cab mode, rainy weather, coupler breakage, wheelslip, etc. the whole works. Broke the tender drawbar on the lead engine. This was back in Trainz 2006 of course. Thanks for the advice though guys. Though I would run separate consists of engine at the front and rear and a three to four unit set in the middle of the train.

I've run trains with diesels front, mid-train, and pusher, all controlled by the driver in the lead diesel. AFAIK, in Trainz all locos in a single train are automatically controlled by whichever loco the player was last in, so even with multiple steamers only one driver is necessary per train.
