QR Rolling Stock

What I got is from around 1960-61. It won't give me a link to the exact photo, just their general site. Search Townsville then a date in advanced options. There are none prior to 1950s unfortunately. https://qimagery.information.qld.gov.au

If the link doesn't post it's gimagery dot information dot qld dot gov dot au.

I found some roads with yellow (to my eyes anyway) lines for Trz2009 by Lotharhake 68787 and Keimi and gawpo50 453099. I don't know if they've been upgraded to suit your Trainz version Ali. But might be wworth a look.
Will check out the imagery site. I've got a feeling it's the Archives site myself.
On that Achives site is a plan for Morris Siding you were asking about. If I can get down there in the New Year I'll see what I can find out. I will take a 32GIG USB and ask if I can copy the stuff onto it. Taking photos off a computer monitor doesn't impress me much. Be nice if it was a BIG screen ;-D

Frank
EDIT: Just looked at the site qimagery. It's the one I gave you a while back with the aerial photos of Townsville mate.

Hi Ali,
Here's what I did with qimagery. I opened Townsville 1961, QAP1159 Frame 22. Dated 1st August 1961. Used the + - to enlarge the photo to as far as I could before it got too grainy. Right Click on the photo, Click 'Print' and a box should open. Choose PDF and 'Landscape' then save. Name and Save it to where you want. The PDF should have the photo in the size you enlarged it to before saving.
I use a PDF program called PDFX Viewer. A freebie but a goodie. Much better than the crap Windows supplies. When viewing you can enlarge the pic quite a bit before it gets blurry. Not that they are good pics to start with. But at least they are Public Domain.
I also did the same with Townsville Cowley 1960 QAP1085 Frame 13 and most of the other frames off all of the Townsville Aerial shots.
Imagery back then was not as good as today mate. I also have a free version of Ulead Photo Editor which you can adjust the pics to a better resolution. Easier than Adobe believe me.
Hope the info helps mate.
Kind regards
Frank

Those roads don't have yellow lines except one which is dual lanes one way only, yellow on one edge. Too old and also attach under the road crossing spline points. Odd given they (crossings) were updated by elstoko to build 3.5. Unfortunately the NSWGR railway crossing build 4.2 also by elstoko are useless although the roads fit perfectly. For some reason they are made much narrower than the roads and this also affects the boom gates, so laying a piece of road to widen it to match, puts the boom gate ends on the road!

As for the photos I'll have a further look but the ones I got are perfectly clear and are dated 1964. I'm seeing conflicting information with the bottom part of the north yards sometimes ending the sidings NE end, but the truth seems to be as per photos they end SW (almost west) end. It also appears the south yards never existed until after 1972? Apart from a few sidings beside the mainline - eastern edge of the loop over Ross Creek on the southern side, if that makes sense!

PS I just used their download link and got perfectly clear images, which open on my pc at 12.5% so when enlarged I still have a perfect image.

I don't know when they were built mate. I know the Shuntyards were there when I was a kid up there in the 1950's because we lived in Perkins St, directly opposite the Jetty End of the Sth Yard. I used to watch the Steam Engines loose shunting in there. I have a particular memory of a tank engine kicking wagons in.
I think that I'll have to try to get to the Archives place when I can drive again. 4 hours travel time makes it a long day with a sore gut.
I can not find QAP15014119 any where. I even did the Google thing but nothing came up. I would love to find it and have a look to see if what we called the Old Coal Stage Road was actually it.
Yes I agree that the photos don't overlap very well. Blame the lousy pilot. His bomb run wasn't very good was it.

Frank

https://qimagery.information.qld.gov.au has the South yards there in 1958. Scroll down to 'Northern Clevedon Hwy 1958' QPA862 Frame 7, dated 1/10/1958. Toppo shows the Sth Yd and Nth Yd workshops. So the Sth Yd was definitely there before 1972 or I was seeing things as a kid.
Like I said, I lived across the road from the Jetty End. On the corner of Boundary Rd and Perkins St was a shop. We lived in 3 Perkins St next to the shop. Had a big mango tree mum used to send me up to pick mangoes to make mango chutney. Can see the tree in the Toppo. Blasted sap made me get boils. Very painful.

Frank.

I believe you will find the South Yards were constructed around 1936-1940.

Quoted from Notes on Queensland Railway Volume 3 NCL2F-373
"1936-1937 South Townsville reclamation work completed and principal buildings now being erected to house new carriage and wagon shops, timber mill andstore, office, dining room, changing room, ambulance room, time-keepers office. 4 miles of siding to be laid."
"1937-1938 South Townsville new woodworking shop under construction as well as wheel shop, machine and blacksmith, timber shed, transformer house. Laying of 4m of sidings nearly complete."
"1939-1940 New workshops buildings South Townsville completed and in use. Additions to Northern complex are now at hand."

Cheers
Richard

North Yard 1946 with Coal Stage in the background Ali. Also The Inlander departs Townsville on July 22 1986. Crossing the Diamond on way to Forkline. Sth Yd towards right of pic. Nth Yd to left and maintainance to rear. Note the Semaphores.

Gees mate it's a bit wet there! I also found an aerial photo that covers the South Yards, QAP 1085012, so that's helpful as well. Those are some short semaphores, and no way to reproduce them, well not in my abilities any way. Certainly very stylish! I'm thinking I probably should start a thread for my route, but it'll be 2 years before it's complete!

I remember one year late 70's they took most of the DH's off the shunters and used them to pull the perishables through. The big Bluey's won't go through water. We were knee deep in the South Yard cutting bow waves as we shunted.
I don't know why they had the short semaphores. Only a driver could tell you that and most of the guys I knew have passed on. I know we didn't have any dwarf shunters on the job.
Can you give me the link to the aerial photo that covers the South Yards, QAP 1085012 please mate? Or send me a copy of the pic please?
If you start a new thread for your route, do you want me to forward any info or pics to that?
Regards
Frank

Thanks mate. I thought I had looked at Cowley 1960. Have to put my glasses back on. If i find anything else relevant to the Time period you are working on I'll post it on your new thread so as not to confuse the two. Here's one of a goods train going into the South Yard, probably ex the Isa. Boundary St in the back ground. Pulled by a Yank as we called them. I loved to shunt with these things. Boy they had some guts. The problem loose shunting with them was their braking power. The darned things could stop on a dime and they wouls snap the draw gear on the wagons.

Hi Ali,
These are the original Sugar Bins that were placed on MTW Wagons before the modern bottom drop wagons. Plus a pic on how they were emptied below it. Frank
