PRR H9 Repair

I recently repaired Ben Neal's locomotives found in his website (thanks for the helpful suggestions from everyone), but my favorite steam locomotive of all times, the PRR H9 Consolidation by Bill Klene, has me stumped. When I was model railroading back before the dawn of civilization, my first HO locomotive was a Bowser H9 (kit) that I super-detailed with Kemtron and Cal Scale parts. I loved that locomotive and, in fact, built a LARGE scale version of it (loco and tender are over 3 feet long) as a display piece entirely (well, mostly) out of wood. Anyway, the Bill Klene locomotive comes up faulty (like many, it appears to be a mesh texture problem), but when I edited the file, I couldn't find anything wrong with the file (except that "consolidation" is consistently misspelled, but that should not be a problem). So, I would appreciate any help to get this fixed.

that train on the download station has a proboblem with the wheels. they just freeze in place

I recently repaired the body as part of the DLS cleanup.

I will give the wheels a look and see what is going on.

Okay, I fixed them

The KUID number of the asset I worked on is kuid2:44797:500062:2

I did 4 things to the config file to make the drivers work:

1: Open the asset for editing

2: The config has a category class of "ZX". This is incorrect. "ZX" is a paintshed reskin. Change this entry to "ZB" for bogey.

3: For steam engines an additional entry is needed to make the drivers work correctly. This entry is missing. Add the following line:

direct-drive 1

Keep the spacing format the same as the other entries.

4: I deleted the Anim line from the default mesh entry.

5. I changed the build number to 2.9 .

6: Save and commit

That was it. After saving and committing the drivers work fine.

The drivers weren't part of the DLS cleanup. Apparently they don't come up as faulty and were not flagged.

Needs a bit more revising !~!

n8phu --

For some time in TRS2004 this was my favourite steam locomotive, so I'm glad that someone has taken it under their wing and updated it.

Are you that person?

If so, please take what follows as constructive criticism (and also a thank you for the work you have done):
  • It does not drive in Cab Mode.
  • There are a whole heap of dependencies that are not really required.
  • There is no one inside the cab.
  • The tender is not configured to provide water and coal.
  • The whistle is hideous.

So I've taken it upon myself to make yet further revisions:
  • It now aliases to a cab, enginespec and sound that are TS12 compatible - it now works in Cab Mode.
  • The whistle has been changed.
  • An attachment mesh has been added for a loco crew.
  • The attachment points for the two bogeys that are no longer required have been removed from the original mesh and those bogeys removed from the config.txt file.
  • Specular lighting has been added to the loco, bogeys and tender.
  • The tender now carries coal and water.
  • The chimney smoke now calls up the tfx file.
  • Other minor adjustments.

Now can I ask you a favour? I'm unsure about all this DLS updating business and processes. If you think my update is an improvement, would you mind feeding it into the update system?

I've mounted it here for downloading:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=47BF7057B10D1B30!124&authkey=!ANXd0mzhhIZ9MsE

You may need to revise the kuids (loco, pony & drive bogeys, tender) so that they obsolete previous versions.

It shows as Loco PRR ... .

Thanks,

Phil

Well if you mean updating it further and putting it back on the DLS you cant. The DLS clean-up only wants it to be in working order and it specifically reads "You are not permitted to fundamentally change the content beyond what is necessary for the repairs." Now, if you go and get wgkandsk's permission to re-upload then you can do it.

In working order?

" ... in working order ... " in this particular instance is somewhat debatable. It certainly is not in working order in Cab Mode.

But your point is taken about the author's permission.

A further question - has the matter of modifying content that has no licence provisions been resolved? I understand that re-skins seem to be fair play if there is no restriction in the licence.

Well, I went to reply, but it seems that this has sorted itself out...

Indeed I was trying to keep within the letter of the law as it were. I figured if I at least got it working, and enterprising soul would grab onto it and give it some love.

Phil, Thanks for doing this, now the H9 can live on.

Bill, thank you for allowing Phil to do this.

Phil, I also put up the PRR E6 4-4-2 Atlantic, the NYC 0-6-0, and the NYC Mohawks done by Bill, perhaps you should give them a go............

If you finish with them and get bored, I also put up the PRR S1 by Mr.Train and the PRR K4 by Gary Hoorn

Sorry guys - I'm a very pressed for time at the moment. May be later ... .

All I wanted to do was get one of my old time favourites up and running.

I downloaded the loco to 2010 and had to change the interior to the Auran one due to the usual texture problems with the installed one. It is a great steamer, thanks for repairing it Phil,
cheers,
Mike
