ProtoLARS Linking

I have read on several posts that Linking ProtoLARS industies is possible.

I have a Tractor Factory I would like to receive commodies on one track Process it and have the Product on another track for shipment. I have attempted to use the Industry link available on DLS but it doesn't work with 2010. (in fact it gives a startling result.) I have the ProtoLars working to some degree but get stuck on getting the External's to work with each other.

Hopefully with some guidance I can send my rolls of steel to on track and pick up my tractors and farm equipment on another. I have checked on the Lars and ProtoLARS PDF's it says very little (if anything)on the Linking the tracks as one industry.

Thats exactly what I am tring to do as well. I have never seem any explanation of how the "External" link is supposed to work. I also found Industry Link does not work in 2010.

I got some limited success

I fiddled with the protolars industrial Rail for a couple of hours working with the external feature. I actually got it to work in 2010. It is unloading on two different tracks and producing goods on a third.

What I did. On the First Protolars I set up Goods Production, I set up 8ft lumber and 16ft lumber with the external production. I cloned the protolars and got rid of the commodities I wouldn't be using leaving only General Goods, 8ft lumber and 16ft Lumber. any working commodity will do. in my second track I set up the unloading for 16ft lumber while flag the production as external but
where the linking section is lower down. I don't do anything for the first track for the lumber tracks I set up the link to the first track. I also make sure that I set the external production rate. Pretty soon I have the lumber unloading on one side of the building while my general goods are on the other.

The cloning process is pretty easy. I am only editing the config.txt file so that I only have 3 commodites. I change the number allowed from 79 to 3. Also some hiccups the texture files need to be converted to tga. also Protolars uses icon 0 which 2010 doesn't tolerate. I edit in the content editor. and that icon 0 error shows up in red. I just hit the x and get rid of it. save check for errors and commit.

The cloning isn't needed to make the Protolars work with the external options but it sure does help to prevent scrolling through 79 commodities that I don't use. Also very specific commodities can be chosen by putting the Kuid in the config.txt.

If you do this keep in mind that a rail car needs to be configured to also except exotic commodity. Of coarse you can use the commodity picker. But you have to keep track of that if you add your exotic commodity to the car you plan to use in your route. for example I have a car that holds goods however I have added steel coils in the same que holding products. so either general goods OR Steel coils can be loaded into this particular car.
