Gfisher,
I'm not sure what happened differently, but I was able to work around the Bay for quite a while this evening with a couple of small trains. No crashing of the pc occurred but I was nowhere near the aforementioned bridge. Assuming that this might be a memory problem are there some memory heavy portions of this layout that you could recommend my deleting, maybe some of the sounds or some of the intense scenery (though I'd hate to see any of that go)? I'm assuming that the pc memory is not being used up by distant scenery so I don't suppose that would help me any. I'm recently retired so an upgrade to my pc is not an option at this point. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Lennie,
The problem may not be the asset, but perhaps a problem with your computer's memory. I had the same problem with my old computer. The program would run for exactly 1/2 hour while in Driver, but I could stay in Surveyor all day. My hard drive would go crazy when I reached a certain place in the layout where there was a lot of extra content.
At first I thought it was a bad asset, but even though I cleaned out lots of stuff one at a time, the problem wouldn't go away. Since this is my own route, which is quite large and varied, I had another driving session that went another way. The program ran fine until I reached the new place with lots of buildings and trees, and the same thing happened within the same time period. The hard drive would start thrashing about, then the screen would flicker and the program would die to the terminate continue screen.
I noticed that other programs weren't as spiffy as the used to be, and then one day Internet Explorer and Word crashed with memory location errors. I ran memtstx86 from a bootable CD, and sure enough within 10 seconds or less, memory errors showed up. After replacing the bad DIMM, the program ran fine.
Now there are a couple things to keep in mind here. This could be a bad DIMM, or it could be heat related. This is now July, and it's as you know gertting more humid and warmer. Computer parts, particularly when they are stressed by a lot of work, which is common with Trainz, will get flaky when hot.
You might want to check the cooling in your computer. Make sure the fans are clear of dirt, fur, and other things. Ensure that the case is clean inside and properly ventilated and cooled. You might need to add extra fans, and or an external fan to keep the components cool.
Good luck and let us know what's going on.
John
