Problem install patch

This is the very first time i have had to use the forum and have had trainz from 2004 for myself and autistic son, there has been frustration in learning to get things working over the years and I decided to upgarade to 2012 but reluctantly went to download for this, progressed to fixing things and having quite a selection and had back ups and started getting some payware as son wanted to specialise, going great until this dam upgared to sp1, ages to download and go to put in , says can't find some files and aborts, when go to restart game asks for rego no, etc reput all details in and lose the bloody lot, Delete the whole lot and re instal 2012 and guess what nothing, cant install the previous rebuild , have dam files all over the place and only the basic 2012 working, son has put fist through monitor and now will spent ages going through forums and rebuilding everything again. I have given up trying the other railworks bull**** with there buying bloody everything. Went back to the more reliable trainz , what a joke. I will perservere and get it going again to the basics and then play Grand Theft Auto. Thanks a bloody lot for nothing

When you're going to reinstall the game, you need to delete all the files from start/all programs/N3V Games (or Auran). When you uninstall the game, the root file will still be there with some stuff such as the local folder (it has all the content you've downloaded). You will need to delete the root folder since it includes all that and then you will need to reinstall the game. The root folder will be remade and then the game should be restored to the original build your copy had. There should be another update coming out next week that adresses the bugs and errors with the patch.

One minor addition to this advice: the files in question here include all of your own routes and any content that you've downloaded. Don't delete these unless you are certain that you don't want them any more. If you're not sure, then move them to another location (or to a backup disk) prior to reinstalling, and then use CM to install them afterwards as desired.

There should be another update coming out next week that adresses the bugs and errors with the patch.

While partially accurate, this is perhaps misleading advice. We will be addressing specific issues that have been reported relating to SP1. Since it's not clear what problems Ibbo was having here, we can't really say whether the update will have any effect for him.

So after my blow up, here is what happened after trying to install update.
1. game working perfectly before hand and son could put anywhere upto 40 steam engines together and any amount of coaches and run had about 680 updates to download if needed.
had payware up 9000 comet, prr pack and joinedrail as per registration.
2. downloaded update and went to install, waited nearly an hour and very first message flashes up. 14:25:51: Failed to copy the file 'F:\TS12 trainz\bin\launcher\images-de\main_back_cabon.bmp' to 'F:\TS12 trainz\bin\launcher\images-de\main_back_cabon.bmp.pbk' (error 2: the system cannot find the file specified.)
14:25:51: Failed to copy the file 'F:\TS12 trainz\bin\launcher\images-de\main_back_murchison.bmp' to 'F:\TS12 trainz\bin\launcher\images-de\main_back_murchison.bmp.pbk' (error 2: the system cannot find the file specified.). This tells me update aborted by user and exit.
3 restart trainz and goes to update data base wait another 45 mins and get start screen.
4 tells me cant access planet auran renter serial number.
5 did that , restarts trainz and another data base update. Wait another hour,
6 tells me cant communicate with program check driver direct X etc.
7 Do system restore and start program again runs and starts trainz only to find all missing deps and txt missing .
8 restart and attemp to put in update get this

g ive up and delete trainz completly to do reinstall from scatch
restarted and installed trainz from back up copy of download
Restarts and works only prev build, go to install update to 49922 told patch already installed.
I now have 1700 + updates.
begin to reinstall my stuff only to find that it has re-editted back to original assets now missing txt tga and everything else.
reinstall copies of up 9000 payware which was working perfectly now missing deps, textures etc, downloaded auran content now missing dep and textures, comot set wont even install after downloading again fresh from site.
So now you know why I"m not very happy with this so called update
Now after re installing I have basic trainz version, No Payware every route with missing deps , missing txt. colours and someone who can use 5 steam locomotives and I have to reconvert pm to im etc
SO What do you suggest?

First thing - System Restore should not be used in that circumstance as it will muck things up.

You will need to do a clean install (backing up your UserData folder first if you've got any content created or downloaded) - you may need to use a third-party tool like Revo Uninstaller for this to be possible.

Once that's done, you can then re-patch the game.
