Post your Opinoin...What is the Greatest Railroad on Earth?

Greatest Railroad for me is the Kansas City Southern Railroad. Brought back the Southern Belle Scheme for the railfans.

The New York Central in my opinion. They had great steam locomotives, Superb service and had hordes of U33B's;my favorite locos and had EMD F locos, Gp40's, U25B's and lots of others.

Europe: Rhätische Bahn (RhB) one day I will be on this one!

USA: The ATSF, Best streamliners back in the day, you can't get any better with the simple stainless steel sliver and warbonnets!

Impossible to answer, there's no way you can choose one as the best.
Well i suppose you can, but its hard to determine without having experience with many railroads.

There's so many ways of choosing, which one had the most engines, which one had the best engines, which one carried the most, which one made the most money...

Best

The Cog Railway in NH, and the Glacier Express in Europe are my favorites, as to: "How in the world did they do that" ?

The PRR, because they were had army of genius's, of master RR builders, and scientists. PRR the "Standard of the World".

Trans Canadian railroads really amaze me how they did it ! Kicking Horse Pass-Spiral Tunnels totally Rules !

Right now in China they are building one whopper of a cross country route !

Lets not forget the "Long Straight" in Austrailia ! The line runs for 309 miles (497 km) without a curve. This is the longest straight and level railway anywhere in the world. This, and the Great Wall of China are two land features visible from space shuttle missions (using binoculars).

ATSF or BNSF. I always have had an attraction to those long western railroads... something about them. Too bad i'm stuck here in MI.

Pennsylvania Railroad for me. It was one of the largest US railroads ever, and was brilliantly managed. It ran like clockwork and had some of the nicest paint schemes in my opinion. It also was home to some of the greatest locomotives, including the GG1s and the K4s. And I always loved their steamers, as well as the herald.

My vote goes here too ....

GWR (Great Western Railway). This railway controlled most of the jobs in Swindon and the surrounding area, and it was known to all as "God's Wonderful Railway".

The broad gauge is one of the Greatest railways ever built.

But I do love so many different narrow gauges from all over the world that could have got my vote, they are all so amazing but the broad gauge was one of the big railways that started it all and was just so amazing.

The X in CSXT stands for the union of Chessie and Seaboard systems actually. Also, I hope that you don't mean the Norfolk Western when you are talking about NW, because they merged with Southern to create Norfolk Southern.

Acually, I don't know if that's what I mean or not, all I know is that I've seen Chessie System engines with the letters NW painted on them in the same spot that you see B&O, C&O or WM on other units.
Oh, and if X doesn't stand for Family Lines, then where does it come into play? Or does it?
