portals and there downfulls

Hello , I am using paulsmays layout of North London Suburbs2 and I am having troubles with the portals as follows. 1= I have a train of cartics car carriers and I can load the cartics with cars and save as a train ,then placing it in the portal to dispatch into the game. But the train always comes out with no cars just the empty cartics. 2 = I have placed also into the portal 9 car trains and when the train emits the last coach is left in the portal derailed and this is with any 9 car train.Any answers. cheers George

Portals will always spawn a train with the wagons in default condition. To emit them loaded either create a new version of the wagon in 'loaded' form OR make the first driver command 'instantload' which will load the wagons immediately after the train appears. EDIT: 'create a new version' doesn't mean load it in Surveyor: clone the wagon and create an all-new version with a full load.

On the 9-car train thing, is there a long enough stretch of plain track between the portal and the first signal or junction to accommodate the train PLUS a reasonable margin for error...

With portals I always use as a first command "instant load 09" from jointed rail. Then follow that with yours. If you have any points/switches near the portal make sure they are set in surveyor for trains emitting from the portal. Also make sure the line is signaled.

hi and thanks for your reply and there is quite a long distance from the portal to the start of the layout at least for 3 train lengths and signalled .I was also looking to see if one portal was longer than another and all the ones I sofar found seem to be the same length . The original trains I wanted to run are 12 cars long .

You've set the portals to emit at xxx intervals with xxx consists, and using the schedule library ?

success I have now got trains coming out then load from portals. downside is that the train unit I wish to emit has 2 driving car one either end ,and what is happening is that the rear driving car is reversing itself in the portal and when the train leaves the portal the rear driving car is motoring to the closed end of the portal and the other is leaving correctly minus the rear driving car. any answer to this one ,cheers george

In one of Dap's threads (I cannot now find it) he mentioned that strange things can happen if consists contain long cars and if the speed of the train is too slow to allow the cars to be fully produced onto the track, resulting in consists derailing or reversing. His work around was to add a piece of track to the end of the portal so that the cars have plenty of track to sit on as they are produced. I do not know if this is possible with your portals but if you can it might be worth trying.

pguy's Portal Manager on the DLS will make the consists coming out of the portal have the loads you put on them. I find instant load just loads the 1st product in the config file, to bad if you wanted something else.

Cheers

Lots
