Port Ogden - no sessions?

I purchased a FCT last night and downloaded Port Ogden & Northern, and was surprised that it did not come with even one session (I could load it in Surveyor). I checked CM2 and didn't see any downloadable sessions for PO&N. I think I can create my own very basic session, but I am new to Trainz/2009 and have only walked through the "My First Layout" tutorial. Does anyone know of any downloadable sessions for PO&N?

Hi Net --

WOT!! - can't find no sessions for the good old PO&N??

Hmmm - I usually place a posting about the sessions as I release them. Just do a Forum search with, for example, "ogden".

Or alternatively see here:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=24250&highlight=ogden

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=24165&highlight=ogden

Is that enough?~!

Also I'd suggest going directly to the Download Station:

http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php

and search using philskene as the author and select "Sessions" as the category. Remember to put a tick against TRS2004 because these were all constructed in '04.

Be aware though, that in TRS2009 the AI does not work as intended. The problem is the Track Direction Markers. In TRS2004 I used these to prevent the AI trainz going where they should not. In TRS2009 the markers prevent the signals at the squeeze points from clearing.

So you will find that the AI will stop at the first set of signals encountered.

Yes, I know it's a bummer. But fear not I have an improved and expanded version for TRS2009, but I'm awaiting for a response from Auran about this:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=42673

If Auran ain't interested I'll upload it to the Download Station proto.

Tell me if this helps.

Thank-you for pointing out how to find the PO&N sessions! I had assumed that all sessions could be found using the CM2 application by simply typing "ogden" in the main search field, but his does not result in finding any sessions. When I used the DLS as you instructed I found many sessions for Port Ogden, and then noted that the actual session names do not have the word "Ogden" in them and noted that I should try "PO&N" in CM2. So back in CM2 using PO&N, I CAN find 16 session files. Next I downloaded the "PO&N 1a HiCap" files directly from your Forum posting "A session for Port Ogden & Northern using those hi-capacity well cars" . When I imported the cdp for the session via CM2 it completed very quickly with no dependencies. I deleted it and then tried using CM2 directly and I saw the following in the download helper window:
pon_sess.gif

So if I used the session file from your forum posting instead would I be missing content? I also noticed some missing dependencies and manually tracked them down using a kuid search on DLS - is this normal? Did I have to do this? The kuids I manually installed were: kuid2_69871_128_1.cdp, kuid2_69871_129_1.cdp, and kuid_90361_1501.cdp. Also I noted several warnings and fautly dependencies - should I be worried about this? I launched the session and it seemed to be ok. Here are some screenshots:

And:

Finally, unless I new about the Forum posting I would not have known about the Russian locos - why are they not available in CM2?
I have not yet had a chance to really try this first session yet but my impression in a 2 minute test was: Wow! Again, thank-you very much for helping me.

Hi Net --

Thanks for the feedback about the session names - next time round I should actually incorporate "ogden" in them.

Be aware that some of the sessions you have found might be for the TC3 version of PO&N. Check the description under the thumbnail. TC3 sessions will not work with the TRS2004/06/09 version of the route.

There's many ways of getting material into CM2. I often find the easiest is to go directly to the Download Station, search for what I want, and then fire up CM2 and get it to search for that particular item. Alternatively, if CM2 refuses to cooperate, I use the FTP download (accessed by clicking on the "Download Page" text under the thumbnail), save the cdp file, then drag this file into the main pane of CM2.

If you then see a "?" against the asset it means that it is missing a dependency. Just drag this into the "Download Helper" pane of CM2 (upper left) and click on "Start". CM2 usually makes a good job of finding the dependencies.

If any of my sessions require assets not on the DLS that is always indicated in the description. This should show in the "Asset Details" pane of CM2 (lower left). Alternatively, find the session in the main pane, right click and choose "View Config File". You will find details in the file that then appears.

Error messages - these are usually safe to ignore. I do not use anything that does not actually work.

Those wonderful USSR loco? Well I guess the original author never quite got round to unloading them to the DLS or actually didn't want to. Unfortunately there is a lot of excellent material around that never makes it onto the DLS. See here, for example:

Ok great thanks for the feedback. I am really enjoying the hi-cap well cars session. I can't wait to try the rest of the PO&N sessions!

I ran into a major issue in "Conex" - basically there is a phantom AI train that causes my train to derail. Here is the map: http://home.comcast.net/~pmm1/Nethog61_20090901_0000.jpg and here is the same area in the 3D world: http://home.comcast.net/~pmm1/Nethog61_20090901_0001.jpg (you can see my train to the right, the phantom train is in the middle of the image).

I did run into stalled AI trains due to the issue you cite, but I have no problem manually moving them out of the way. I don't know how to clear a derailment in a session. Is there a fix yet for the AI train issue? Is there a way to clear the phantom derailed train? I will restart the session from the beginning but I would like a fix for the AI trains first if one exists.

Hi Net, Don't know if This will help but try putting in a re-rail portal by maggs and set it up just to re-rail trains.

Net --

Welcome to the wonderful and frustrating world of AI. I've encountered all sorts of peculiar AI behavior - trains that refuse to move, trains that refuse to stop, trains that refuse to follow the designated route and trains that derail for absolutely no reason. But never a phantom.

In TRS2004 to get rid of derailed trainz I use the Rule "Derailed Vehicle Eraser" kuid 116387:4 (Download Station) and now add this rule to all the sessions that I make. There is an equivalent built-in for TRS2009 called "Clean Up Derailed Trains".

To use it, go into Surveyor and click on "Edit Session Rules" at the top left of the screen. In the new screen click on "Add" then select "Clean Up Derailed Trains" from the list. It is configured by highlighting it and then selecting "Edit". Save when exiting.

Phil:
Thanks for the information - I added the rule to the ConEx session and will give it another try tonight.

A little more information on the phantom train: I took a look at earlier points in time I saved while running the session, and found that at 17 minutes game time, that I actually could see the derailed train in the 3D world. So it became invisible later in the run. I also loaded a point in time at around 12 minutes into the run and watched the AI trains move through the area where the phantom occured up to and beyond the 17 minute mark, and guess what? No derailment!!

Anyway, thanks for your help once again Phil.
