point-and-click, real time physics and effects configuration

I have recently been playing with a variety of Eastern European SG locos and rolling stock and discovered (having translated the string-tables from Polish into English) that a number of these have point-and-click physics and effects configuration.

In the case of the locos, whether in surveyor or driver, you can turn the locomotive engine off and on (as well as a two or three other elements) at will.

Some will recall that in early editions of Trainz the ability to turn locomotive engines off and on was a built in feature, which disappeared in later versions for reasons I cannot fathom - and which I thought you could now only get as a feature from payware creators.

Also, some of the rolling stock have point-and-click physics and effects configuration in that you can turn the physics off and on and attach/remove an end of train device at will.

I wonder, though, if (for example) turning the physics off on a consist of rolling stock lying in a siding really saves much, if anything, by way of CPU load - after all, each wagon still has a script ticking away keeping tabs on whether the physics of that particular item of rolling stock is currently off or on.

Interesting and useful features nonetheless.

It is amazing what those in Europe as a whole have managed to incorporate into Trainz, there's a lesson there for all of us!
