Looks really nicely done so far. I'd like to see more. 
I can't see much of the route, but a comment on the screencap angle...
There is a 'sun' in Trainz and all models have a 'sunlit' side and a 'shady' side. As in real life try to get the camera on the sunny side of the models, the shot will always look better. In your shot the loco focus is the grey locos and you have the shady side. The 'sun' is on the red loco, but it is very much the secondary (even tertiary) subject.
I know the shot you were aiming for: the straight-down-the-middle angle is good; the moody atmospheric half-light is good; but the lighting angle kills it. Often you will compose a good shot that fails due to lighting. Sometimes you can fix it by moving the clock - if that shot was early morning try the same thing late afternoon: might fix it; might not...

For general comments on the route you need to zoom out a bit, but from what i can see the trackwork looks good, the curve is nice and even, track spacing is consistent and the straights are straight. Plenty of routes on the DLS where none of the above is as good!
What is that signal gantry protecting? If it is protecting an interlocking it is too far from the junctions, they should be visible. If it is a block signal with no interlocking 04s might be better...
If you are trying for moody half-light that's OK, but if your Trainz is always that dark crank the Gamma up a little ( From memory: Surveyor > Main Menu > Options > Display Settings)

What Andy basically said...I think it's only fair if we get more zoomed out shots to be able to give you a better opinion.
As far as the signals go, if they are distant 06s (mimicking what the signal ahead will be), then they're appropriate. But if they're just a regular 06, you can use 04s instead and they will do the same thing.
