Please help- Trying to change train in quick drive

Hi-

Thanks in advance for any help. I recently purchased Trainz 12 for my son. We downloaded a train and installed it into the game so that we can see it in our railyard. Can any one give me instructions on how to add/drive this particular train on one of the routes that comes pre-installed? Is that even possible?

Find the route in surveyor , open the session , add loco. You may have to add a driver and allocate that loco to them.
Main menu, edit session, available drivers.
If you download a loco it won't be available for a saved session in driver. You must start again.

If the loco and cars are not faulty or contain no errors in their config files, they are clickable to lay on a track ... by selecting the loco, or cars, individually, you can lay them one by one on a track.

Some locos and cars have faulty or missing dependencies, and these will not show up untill you make fixes to their config files or download all the missing dependencies.

I selected six SD70's and placed them on the head end of a train, that had 137 loaded coal hoppers, and placed two more SD70's on the rear as helpers ... and saved/named the "New Consist"-"15,000 Ton Loaded Coal".

If you are making up a long train and do not want duplicate car numbers, check out freight cars made by majekear that have # in their name. There are over 1,000 of them on the DLS. Every time you place one of these cars, it has a different number.

Also, read the manual. It does explain the basics.

Fran1 did not mention saving your train addition after placing yout train in surveyor. Click on Main menu-> Save as and enter a new name for your session. You might also be prompted to save a new route also if you have inadvertently made a change to the route, thats ok. You can then run your new session by clicking on the QuickDrive button (if you skipped saving your work you will then be prompted to do it then).

The next time you open Trainz you should find your new route / session in the route / session list. If you don't see it there click on the Star icon at the top of the list to show all sessions instead of just favorites. If you created a session under the built in route, the sesson will be listed with the sessions for that route.

If you later open the Content Manager you should find your route/session by searching on your user name or look for the session name in the list.

I (we all) suggest that you read the TS 12 manual especially Section 8, Intoduction to Surveyor.
The manual can be opened from the Trainz flash Launcher. I prefer to copy the file (to the desktop or Documents) and open it from there so that I can toggle betwee the Trainz and PDF windows.

All I want to do is use one of the existing routes in a freelance process. I do not want to have to build all the scenery and industries. I am used to MS Trains where you can do this process.

Some speakes of section 8 (surveyor) in the manual but there is nothing like that in my cheap manual. My section 8 is "Extra Fun". There is nothing on the surveyor in this manual.

What gives.

TS12 does not have many routes to select from. TS10 has about 30. From the menu page click on surveyor, scroll through the routes and (make sure yellow star is ticked to see them all) and select one that appeals to you. From there, go to edit route and using the fly-out panel you can add or delete assets until doomsday. When you exit, save the route with a different name and you have just created your own route. The next time that you start trains the route that you created will be listed for further editing or driving. It could not be more simple. Have fun.

I have no idea what you are talking about. You probably should describe the issue in more detail.

Just offhand, the manual is geared towards Driver, for driving trains. There is no definitive How-To for Surveyor...really, 90% of the discussion on this board concerns the Surveyor side of things.

Below is a great tutorial by Chuck Brite on how to make a route in Surveyor. There are better signals and different kinds of track available nowadays, but it's worth looking at and it's extremely well-written.

As for locos, you'll kind of pick up how that works. Select the Trainz tab, pick a loco or cars, make sure Add is selected, and click on the track where you want it to go, and so on.

You are looking at the manual that came in the CD case. Check out the 242 page manual that is accessed from the opening screen where you can select start, options, content and manual on the left side of the window. If you can't find your answers there, ask specific questions on this forum and you will get more help that you can use, well almost.

The tutorial recommend above is good and I will be reading it for the next couple of days.

I did finally find the infomation on the Surveyor section on the mauual that is stored on the first page of the program. The little booklet that came with the DVD is useless for any help, other than a general introduction to the program
