Looks like you will need to re-download and re-run the patch.
As it had not started to patch the files at that point, a reinstall is not needed in this case.
As the patch is large, it's worth checking that your connection is stable enough to download the whole file.

This may make things difficult for me, as I usually work with users who have a reasonable knowledge of system operation.
What I can suggest though, is to check the hard disc for errors, just in case.

yeah i had the same problem mate! 
have you installed the game from steam? in my case , what i done was try run trains from its folder without steam. Then if that works try to run the patch.
