please advise what to purchase to run new era!

Neon,

Do you know if any of the MSI laptops come without the keyboard backlighting? Or can you turn it off? I'm looking for a gaming laptop, but I want one that looks like a normal laptop (aka I don't want Alienware design-like (nothing against Alienware performance, just want a normal looking laptop)). I'm a fan of this laptop:

Although I worry about overheating issues in these thinner laptops...
I happen to have the GS60 and yes you can turn off the backlighting if you want. You can also use the control panel to make it any RGB color you want so I don't see why anyone would turn it off.

Within your recommendation there are many units. Which msig60 would you recommend? We want to spend no more than 2,000. Also someone mentioned needing a dual video board and liquid cooled desktop. Is that right? Would this msi overheat??

The highest price machine that doesn't have a 3K display that's under $2,000 is your best bet.

Perhaps a stupid question to ask, but worth considering (in my mind). If one buys a new laptop with Windows 8, that does not include a touch-screen display, I assume a mouse can be used? I can't imagine touching the screen while building in surveyor...

Yes. That's not really a problem, just buy a Windows 10 Upgrade (if it isn't free) when it comes out.
Windows 10 solves 8's issues, I should know as I've previously beta tested it.

Yeah, I was hoping 10 would be out sooner, but I'll definitely be upgrading once it's available!

Any laptop can have an external big screen monitor hooked up to it ... and I could never handle using surveyor without using a mouse and keyboard, as the touch screen is 30" away from my eyes, and my arms are too short to box with God. Using a laptop's built in track pad buttons, and keyboard, is like trying to do microscopic brain surgery, with gorilla arms and paws.

Thanks for providing a post completely south from the question. He was asking if a mouse and keyboard could be used, not if he could hook up an external display.
Edit: It's also extremely confusing.

Wow!

Didn't that then into a little war...

The PC specs I gave are those of my latest PC.
I've used Intel CPU and nVidia GPU as it's my preference.
I'm sure that you can have equally impressive performance for Tane with the and CPU and Radion GPUs - or indeed a mixture.
Chose the best value at the time of building as the process change regularly.

Don't skimp on the case, power supply, motherboard. The motherboard I have has a builtin sound blaster chip set, so I don't need an additional sound card (so there is an economy in cost and expansion slots).
For a new build, I would stay with components that are recent - principally to have the driver sets up to date, and capable of the latest DX support etc.

I honestly don't know anyone who purchases sound processors unless they're audio professionals that absolutely have to have the advanced capabilities of said cards.
That being said, I know some gamers also buy them, but in most circumstances you have little to no gain over the on-board unit.

The last PC that I built showed a noticeable improvement in several games when I installed a dedicated sound card.
Of also has the ability to record "what I hear" - so I can record a radio programme that I'm listening to.
I don't know that that's "professional"?

Please continue to elaborate, I'm intrigued.

When selecting a graphics card for a laptop, would one be better off with one graphics card, such as a GTX980M, or two lesser graphics cards like 2xGTX970M or 2x880M? If you have a set budget and can only spend $XX towards graphics cards, would you be better served with getting one card at the highest quality possible, or downgrading a bit to get two cards where you could dedicate one to Trainz??
