Pick List

Trainz Luvr since 2004
I've been using CM3 for over a year now and still really have no idea what the pick list is use for. What are the key features or benefits of the pick list? How are others using it?

Thanks.

I use it for stuff that I like that has tricky names - you know the sort of thing - a beautiful ground texture called A751Z4xy that you can never find in the menus.

Just drag the asset - works for everything - from the surveyor menu into the pick list window.

To use the pick list you must have the appropriate menu tab open, but just click the pick-list item to instantly select the required content...

Andy :)

I use it to make my favorite freight cars available when I am creating consists in Surveyor. Sure makes them eacy to access.

The pick list is not tied to a route. It is like an artist's palette, loaded with whatever you want to use in your latest creation. You can change it whenever you want.

Is it unique for each route?
A seriously good update would be to link it to each route. The content for East Kentucky is an entirely different palette than Clovis for example.

If auto-linking to a route is too hard, a tab selection for multiple picklists should be reasonably easy...

You can save a pick list as follows:

Once you have clicked and dragged all the items you want in your list, click on the View In Main List button. This creates a search made up of the kuid numbers. Open the Search window and Save it with a unique name. At a later time you can click on the named search, then click and drag the whole lot into the Pick List window. You can add to or remove items and save it as the same name.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dap - I think you are in Content Manager saving CM search functions. AFAIK there is no in-game save for multiple Surveyor PickLists. I hope I'm wrong...

Andy,

You are correct. There is no way I know of to store and retrieve a pick-list in Surveyor. Current systems requires some planning, but it is a far site better than no pick list at all.

This is probably a stupid question but where is the pick list??? I see images of it on the left side of the screen but how do you turn it on in the first place etc....

Cheers

Dave.

I don't have it up in front of me right now but you just drag the assets from the right window to the pick list on the left. When you restart the game they will still be there.

I know but how do you get the pick list up on the left in the first place? :)

I have nothing on the left hand side of the screen to drag things to. :)

Good deal.

Remember this because it puzzled me a bit when I started using the pick list.

There is a search field on the right window also. You have to drag your asset from the main body of the window not the search field.

You have to start in Content Manager. On the left, open the search window and the picklist window. Now use the search function to display items in the main window. From there, you can select as many items as you wish and drag them to the picklist window. Keep doing this until you get as many items as you need in the Picklist window. Do not clear the picklist window. Now, in the upper left corner of the screen, click on File and select Launch Trainz (or press ctrl L). Open a route in Surveyor. Now click on the circle button with a little funnel at the left end of the top tool bar. The items in the picklist will now be displayed in the lower portion of the window. You can place an item from the pick list by clicking on it and then clicking the screen where you would like it to go.

Hope this helps.

David
