The files included in this distribution are
Mesh_Viewer.exe
Mesh_Viewer.chm
Mesh_Viewer.txt
GroundTexture.jpg
BallastTexture.jpg
and this Readme.txt

And ground texture always bright green.

The mesh_viewer.txt is just a history of changes but if you want to see them then these are the most recent:

Code:

...

The ground texture is just green grass that Peter chose to show a traincar on a track. I guess the ballast texture is used within the track. I don't understand why this would be a problem

Ok ..its not a problem but I would like to change the texture.
Every texture I use becomes bright green.

Easy solution.

You must use jpg image format and call it "GroundTexture.jpg".
Image size is not important though 1024 square is good.
If the program cannot find the image file it makes the "grass" a flat green plane. The same applies to the "BallastTexture.jpg".
The program only looks for the jpg files listed in your original post.

It does not work the same way as Trainz in this case. It just loads images to be the ground and ballast texture.

I found this in the help:

Code:
Texture images are included for the ballast and the ground in train car viewing. You can provide your own images if you so desire. They must both be *.jpg files located in the Mesh View 2 application folder and must be called [I]BallastTexture.jpg[/I] and [I]GroundTexture.jpg[/I].

Jpg's are used to save on the size of the installer program. Please be aware that the program does NOT search for tga or bmp images in ths case.

and also this:

Code:
[SIZE=-2]Scripted traincar assets with texture or mesh replacement will not work in this viewer; however the base model should display correctly.[/SIZE]

I scribbled all over the groundtexture with red paint and that showed up. Perhaps your bright green problem is caused by having a texture or mesh replacement.

Edit: Oops, Peter beat me to it.

But you were showing a traincar before so it must have been setup then. Within Trainz Mesh Viewer select Setup -> OpenWith and point to your Trainz installation. In Content Manager you can launch Trainz Mesh Viewer on a traincar by selecting a traincar, right click and then select Open With -> Traincar Viewer.bat.

You don't need to create a bat(ch) file. I find it takes a while for the program to launch.

Remember that this program uses jpg files and not tga because they load quicker. I believe you can substitute most any square jpg file but I haven't experimented. All I did was modify the existing groundtexture.jpg file.

I know exactly what you are saying
I just don't understand why you don't understand me.
un-install then re-install w/default ground texture
always bright green.

Maybe ini will help

Snip..

You don't need to create a bat(ch) file. I find it takes a while for the program to launch.

Remember that this program uses jpg files and not tga because they load quicker.

The program takes some time to load in Traincar mode because it is using trainzutil.exe to open all the necessary assets.

Also keep in mind that only JPG files are supported for the groundtexture and the ballast images. It does not look for any other file type for those two images.

The "NotFound" entries here in the INI file mean that you have not located your Trainz versions to have the OpenWith batch file placed in Content Manager.

Try re-running SetUp->OpenWith. I notice you have Trainz installed on F drive so make sure that it comes up in the INI file when you have run setup.

That would explain it. :hehe: I've written a couple of little tools for AssetX and waiting for TrainzUtil is like watching grass grow.

Well, I am trying to.

To be honest the only PEV/Andi tools I use are AssetX and Images2TGA as they do 99% of what I need. I always have AssetX running if I am creating/testing content. Best Trainz tool ever!

Ok thanks for trying to help.
I agree that ALL Pevs tools have made it much EZr to manipulate, fix and update assets
Re-posted the problem with new screenshots and
new version of Traincar viewer soon to be released.

I now understand how *.bat are made.

Thanks again for suggestions and explanations.
