Percariously over the edge in Scotland....!

This happened last night but for those that don't know, 156499 (as it is thought to be) came to grief and derailed between Glasgow and Oban in Scotland. The 2 car train has thought to hit a bolder and the first car of the 2 car train hangs precariously over the edge above a 20 m embankment.

The lucky thing is, only 6 injuries to most reports which for a modern design, is pretty impressive.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I immediately thought of Toby's tightrope. That must been horrifying to be on that train though.

well, all I can say is,I'm glad to see that no one was killed in this nearly tragic situation!

A better photo showing the angle at which 156499 derailed, showing how well the crew and passengers dealt with the incident

Recovery starting soon once the road has been strengthened apparently. Interestingly if it is written off, as far as I know it will be the first 156 written off, despite them being involved in a number of serious accidents.

Thanks for that, that is one hell of an angle and stabilizing that shall be fun. Although, the risk assessment would probably prevent them from recovering the unit, despite the fact that we used to go under it and stick straps under the unit then use a rail mounted crane to lift it.

I don't think it will be a write-off, a few dents here and there, broken drive train, but looks reasonably intact. It also depends what the fire did.
