Penn Central RR Large Pics

Seth,

Contact me when you get a chance. The Conrail Historical Society will be up on Horseshoe Curve at Altoona's Railfest at the end of June and I'd like to demo your route as its obviously from the area. We'll be up on top of the Curve all weekend and I'll have Trainz running both days up there more than likely. I started a Curve route but havent really got anywhere with it...

hit me up when you get a chance!

Is railfest for like members of a group or something, or is it open to the public, also when it? Cause I live in PA, and Horseshoe Curve is one of my favorite places to railfan!

Railfest

Railfest is open to the public, but I too need more information, of all the planned activities, extra costs for special train excursion rides (probably pre-reserved already) ? I will be there this year demo-ing my Trainz-Horseshoe Curve route. I hope to see all the others there too.

The RR Memorial Museum is affordable, and is worth the price.

The Curve has an admission to get to the top, and is also somewhat afordable. It opens somewhat early in the morning, and the parking lot closes at 5 PM, I believe. Although night activities are highly discouraged by the local police at the Curve, there are a few illegal parking spots, but not many.

Altoona has never been a great planner of extravagant events and activities, while it will be fun for one and all, it probably won't have any thrill rides, nor steam.

I have been to the Horseshoe under 100 times...I've lost count though, long ago.

I will try to get more information ASAP

Cool..where you going to be at though? down at the thingie they have IN Altoona?

Theres a reason the CRHS is at the curve all weekend. We've gained the respect of the Curve operators who have allowed us to stay on top of the curve all weekend. We also dont have a problem calling the police on anyone NOT supposed to be there during that same time. We sort of act as a Horseshoe Curve police for the weekend! hehe. Its a great time and one of the benefits of being a member.

LoL, you can call yourselves the Smurfs of the mountain. Just joking with you. Conrail was pretty cool, especially in its infancy.

In regard to houses, All the ones in this shot?

Here is a few more shots of Mineral Point......

I believe those houses were made by tlanders. Check out his creations on the dls. Sethmcs, let me know if I'm wrong.

I feel another road trip comming-Horseshoe Curve

I have to admit that Sethmcs has captured the look and feel of Western Pennsylvania towns. It looks so real, as if one could lay invisatrack in the road splines, drive a drivable car up the road, looking left and right, stop the car and get out (using -freeintcam) and roam about the town, railfaning trainz.

Does anyone not know how to install "-freeintcam" and "-surveyorfov=35" in the Trainzoptions file ?
Does anyone not know how to lay invisatrack in a previously laid road spline ?
I could teach anyone exactly how to do these things. Just ask me.

You are correct those are tlanders houses. They are actually Canadian post war models but they represent Western Pennsylvania extremely well. tlanders kuid is 87145. I recommend dowloading them all. They are beautiful models that make any route look realistic.:)

Been a long long While..........

Its been a long time since I worked on this route. So I thought I would post a few......:hehe:

Ohhh, Bethlehem Steel! Are you modeling the original Bethlehem, PA plant? I went to school out there (for one degree anway) and have become a bit of a collector of tidbits of Bethlehem. It was still a railroading mecca in the early 90's, and would easily be THE showcase route (along with Strench's work-in-progress of the Northeast Corridor) for the trainsim community.
