Open Hoppers

Anyone know of a good "Jointed Rail" level open hopper? I'd like one that has the shadow under it, and preferably air hoses that match JR's stuff.

RRMods has some nice ones. FCA 5-bays, Bethgons, Thrall Rotary Gons, etc. Somehow their site has split.... the "old" site has stuff on it, but you should go to the newer version of their site.

If you're looking for older content, such as the N&W double, triple and quad hoppers from the 1920's, through the 1950's, I've got plans on most the N&W cars because of my subscription to Mainline Modeler. I would expect they'll eventually wind up the subject of a tutorial on Y_T.

I may hit you up for that info if I can't find what I want.

Have to "Roll my own", why not? I haven't made any rolling stock yet.

I am working on a whole range of coal hoppers since that's my main area of interest. They are older (pre-1970s) though. Not sure if that is what you are looking for.

The USRA 55ton one is the closest to being finished I guess, but the trucks, hoses and couplers are not mine. They belong to lilb, but I'm not sure what's up with the libraries he released since the thread got shut down when people wouldn't behave. Mainly, I don't know if it's just the scripts or if the actual hose, truck, and coupler mesh as well. Anyways, here is an old picture of them in a not exactly prototypical paint scheme and before I fixed the shadows.

I think I have a B&O and Reading scheme done that are actually prototypical, but they are on my old laptop.

I also have a 70t hopper, Southern Big Red 100t hopper, N&W H11 hopper, and a Southern Silverside gondola in various stages of completion. Ok, so that last one isn't a hopper, but it was used for hauling the same stuff. The 70t and Silverside have been mapped and are awaiting textures. The Big Red and H11 are still a good deal away since I got bored with the hoppers and started working on an SD35 instead.

Not promising anything here, but just letting you know that you're not the only one looking for hoppers. If people were interested in them I'd be more dedicated to finishing them, but it seems like the current trend is modern Western US stuff.

Actually I am looking for ones that will blend with Lilb's "Steam Transistion Era" stuff (as it is called over at Jointed Rail). I have his Gondola's, Boxcars, Flatcars, and I am looking for hoppers like you show, and larger, for consists of the 1950's - 1960's or there abouts.

I ended up looking for them after I saw a Youtube video showing 2 SW switchers pulling a consist of 4 covered hoppers, 1 boxcar, 3 100 ton open hoppers and 42 55ton hoppers and caboose.

When I went to assemble it, I found that the 55 toners (or ones that look close) that I had were all very substandard side by side with lilb's cars.
