Hi

The username above is my 2nd grade2/yr2/not quite seven year old son. He’s a massive train enthusiast. When I grabbed the iPad off him today he had a chat window open. Another user ‘#night551089’ had PMd him and after the various hi etc was now asking him if he was into roleplay. My alarm bells went nuclear to be honest. I’m trying to think of an innocuous reason , but I’m not feeling this person was referring to guard/driver.
My son has registered using his own name, so perhaps looked obviously like a little kid. I guess we can change all that and anonymise it, but that doesn’t alter the fact… how does one deal with people in a game with chat windows who may seek to be doing children harm or grooming?

Only the way their conversation was leading. Beyond that we had no idea about ‘buddies’ etc before I looked today. Oscar watches gamers on YouTube and doesn’t really grasp messaging and networking properly. If I could turn it off I would, but I cannot find out how

TO be honest I shut the whole thing down like I’d taken a hot coal out of the oven. I had started to write ‘who the hell is this, but my kid was getting super upset because he knows when something is properly wrong

Oscar's Father or Mother, you seem to be in a bit of a pickle. What I'd advise doing is just disconnecting the Internet from his device when Trainz is being played. Some of those Trainz Driver (Trainz on iPad) users are quite vulgar, and I wouldn't want Oscar to be exposed to things he shouldn't be, if you know what I mean. A lot of the Trainz Driver users are also children, who don't know what's best. A lot of us normal users are just here to help and be friendly, and most normal users wouldn't play Trainz Driver as well.

I recommend sending a Helpdesk ticket, they may be able to sort out something for you.
Best of luck to you.

Used to be able to turn off chat in the PC versions of Trainz up to TS12 now the setting exists but doesn't do anything.

#night551089 does not appear to have a Trainz account or hasn't registered one, leastwise not under that name which makes me suspicious, so I agree maybe mention this to help desk.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your concerns.
We use Trend micro and it can block messaging on the iPad. If you have an A/v package, does that allow you to block messages?

I use pc for my Trains programs, and I've not had any contacts through trains chat - is it possibly related too multi-player?

Colin
