One way switch?

On a tram route near here they have a set of points at the end of the line which are locked so the tram can start the route on the correct side of the road, but no points need to be changed when they come in, because the points are spring loaded and move out of the way for the wheels.

Is there any way you could get that in Trainz so that you can have a one way track?

I'm not sure spring switches, as you want them, can be modeled due to the way the switches work in Trainz. By using a direction marker, this prevents the AI from attempting to go in the direction you don't want them to go - think of them as one-way streets. With the point facing towards the AI driver, they will not go in that direction. It helps too to also use a track mark past the switch to always guide the AI to that track.

The other possibility is to use a fixed-track object modeled like a spring switch along with a specially created script to make a spring switch operate. This is something that is completely out of my realm, and I'll leave this for the experts on this subject to lend a hand, and if this is possible or not.

As said use directional markers for AI. Set the lever the correct way for the exit. If you are driving you can go slow over the points and it should not derail, you can now reverse out the correct way without changing the lever.

It is possible to make a spring switch. My kickback dumpers use them. When the empty car goes down thru the switch then up the kickback then back thru the switch it takes the other route. They are a bit tricky to set up (in Gmax in my case) but they can be made to work (however stagecoach's method sounds a heck of a lot simpler).

On the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) route, the normal AI handles the two junctions of the zig-zags (reverses) without any problem, so as I am guessing that you have a route containing two parallel tracks A to B and the reverse direction B1 to A1 and the train shuttles continuously between the two end destination. The AI should handle that OK.

An alternative would be to use an automatic switch lever. Look for kuid:44700:100012 on the DLS. It will throw up a couple of warnings in T:ane but they can be ignored. This will automatically switch for an existing train on one track, wait until it clears the junction then switch to the other track where it will stay until the next train in causes it to change back. In effect it is working like a spring switch.

If you set the latent position for the track out, it will return to that after the vehicle has passed it.
