One of the Classics

Over the years, there have been many classic railroads. Pennsy, New York Central, Santa Fe, Milwaukee Road, Wisconsin Central, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, MoPac, and many others. But one railroad defined luxury...
The Great Northern Railway.
Unfortunitely, the GN is not around today, but many of it's "followers" are. I happen to be on of those loyal fans. So if anybody knows the whereabouts of any GN equipment, structures, or routes, please post it here. Also, stories and information on the GN is great!

The Great Northern was, well, great. You may already have this, but if not, feast your eyes.

That's railroading.

There is a GN mail car that use to be on the Empire Builder on display at the Sacramento Rail Museum.

I know there are some GN diesels on the DLS. Just recently, I have found an F7A & B, a GP 38, and some SW7s there. I don't remember who made them, but if I can find them, you can.:D

I have never seen that particular photo, but I have a few real photos from that exact spot. My Great Grandfather, who was a conductor, took one just like that.
Also, I have been inside that GN RPO(and have one on my model railroad.)
I have most of the GN locos from the DLS. I don't have the Geep-38, but I have an SD-45 #400(any GN fans should know the name of that one.)

SD-45 #400 is on display at the Jackson Street Roundhouse of the Minnesota Transportation Museum in Saint Paul. The roundhouse is a former GN roundhouse.

Indeed

Indeed, I have been there. My dad fondly remembers seeing GN first and second generation diesels there. Do you know the nick-name of 'ol #400?

Actually that RPO car has been moved and I think it has been moved into storage. I was last at the California State Railroad Musuem on July 19, 2008.

Last time I was their was on July 4th 2008. It was still on display at that time but that don't mean anything. They still have one though.;)

right

Right you are, SeargentC. Hustle Muscle was used on the GN, then on it's successor, BN. It was repainted into the Green and Black scheme, but retained it's running number and nickname. Now it is kept at the Minnesota transportation museum, and sometimes used to pull GN excursion trains run by the GNRHS.
