Odd negative change and moving 06 to 09 query

I have both TRS06 and more recently 09 on my pc. I have moved the pc from Vista to 7. In TRS09 mode it seems to be fine but when I go into TRS06 it has moved from smooth to stuttering so that is disappointing. Don't know why this should happen as 06 was great up until I upgraded the pc (which doesn't go any faster so no benefits there!).I have queries now have explained he background.

1. Seems odd that Windows 7 has slowed my TRS06 from smooth to some obvious jerking? Very disappointing from what I had.

2. The 2 separate routes I am building are on 06 and it is my intention to move them to 09 and that will be what I will eventually concentrate for use and demit 06. Obviously I can move the cdps to 09 as routine but should I also replace the 09 Local Folder with my 06 Local due the items I have?

Meantime i can at least keep building the route until I have this clarified.

Hello it's me again, with 7 you'll need to download Windows XP Mode (for professional+ultimate) which allows you to run programs not designed for 7.
Pound to a pinch of do dah someone contradicts me .:hehe:

When transferring assets from TRS2006 to TS2009, it is best to use the Import Content function in the File menu of the TS2009 Content Manager.

Never had 2006 but there is a thread on here somewhere that says how to get it working properly in Win7.

The XP emulation for Ultimate is useless for most games, it's for things like spreadsheets and word processors and aimed at business users as a way of enticing users of old software to upgrade to Win7.

You only get an emulation of a very basic VGA card, it doesn't use the hardware.
You can not use a virtual machine for serious gaming.
You may as well dual boot XP and Win7, takes up the same space.

Probably far easier to right click > properties > compatibility > run in XP mode, works on the few bits of old stuff that won't work in win7 properly here.

It would be handy to have the thread probably. I take it shaneturner12 that you mean using that procedure to import the 2006 Local Folder?? I'm a wee bit hazy on this having only ever imported cdp's (!). Will this let me replace the 2009 folder? I have always taken that that items I have downloaded are in the Local. I am sure that when I went from 04 to 06 I just dragged the Local into 06 and let it replace it.

It is odd that 2009 works smoothly on my pc but now 06 is no longer pristinely smooth since Windows 7 upgrade (!) which has decided me to leave 06 for 09.

With '09, content from '04/06 have to be imported using the Import Content function in CM, as the old versions use a different file naming convention to '09/10; so your 06 files won't be recognised by CM.

Matt.

Matt,

Can you clarify a point. Are you as I raised, talking about my 06 Local Folder or my actual route by that method rather than importing the cdp then having to find all the missing items??

Bobby

Bobby,

I think what he's trying to say is:

Start up CM for TS2009.
Click on file import content
Browse to the local folder for TS2006.
Click ok

When you come to any prompts to overwrite data, click on No to all.

When all of this is done, if you didn't check the option to automatically commit the assets when importing content, highlight groups of assets that are open for edit, and press Ctrl+M.

After all of this is done, your route plus any additional content, not found in TS2009, will be imported into TS2009 from TRS2006.

The process can take some time to complete, but be patient.

You may have to repair some items - fix config files for typos, and perhaps fix a shadow meshes, but overall the items will come in fine.

John

Hello John,

Ah, that's what I was trying to clarify. Will move on the instructions and see how it goes!

Thanks.

Bobby

Catastrophe may be too strong but some prolonged disasters that will take me back a heck of a long way to do anything about. It certainly took a while as I expected to import but I have a big, big problem. All the ground shading has gone. On top of that I have miles of track that was raised with grass embankments at both sides and where much of that was the line is flattened and the bridges with it. I have stations in mid air and the platform lamps at ground level sticking up through the platforms. Where I spent time putting i stairs, ramps amd footbridges over a line they are all affected. This is all on my build of the whole of N. Ireland Rlys and as I have somewhere just over 350 boards one can imagine I am groaning at the scale of the stuff i am going to have to painstakingly try and rescue or solve. This in turn also effects some of the scenery and levels around the lines.

I tried running a test train and Ii does so smoothly but the redrawing of the boards is now a challenge and I get areas of blue nothing and eventually they catch up. Having take so long to reach 350+ boards and now go over putting in all the various field colours and the the ground colours in towns and Belfast never mind the mountain to climb re flattened parts and the items and bridges around it is going to be one Hell of a drag. I have done too much of the NIR to throw in the towel but this is one massive holdup having to go back again and again to try and see what can be sorted as I no longer have my scribbled notes.

I also noted a box that came up twice telling me how pressing on the pc the CMP was and wondered while it was importing and thought if it might have been anything to do with having TRS06 as well - which I planned to delete anyway. The reason I say that was that when I went into my NIR route in 06 it had started getting stuttery which had never happened before. I haven't even begun to look at my Glasgow tramway and all the suburbs and infrastructure yet. Has kind of deflated my optism on the progress I had been making. The built-n 09 routes are all fine it is now that i am left with a massive situation to look at.

As I say not a catastrophe but with the size of this project this is one monumental cock-up which is depressing.

As for TRS2006 with Win 7, I also noticed TRS2006 it stuttery, and takes a LOOONG time to load. Since I don't actually run or develop with TRS2006 anymore, I ignore it. There are forum strings about it. TS2009 runs fine with all the layouts I had in TRS2006.
As for your catastrophe, would replacing all of a "defective" Kuid with another "automatically(?)" and then replacing back work?

I have only worked along one of 5 lines laid or partly laid and the most obvious and main problem is that in moving it to 09 it has raised track above where it should be. Even the roads about have arrows above them pointing to a level to where the track is instead of being at zero for example. This for example has happened along a route which was laid at zero.I have a number of bridges at zero along with ares that shouldn't be like that. I lost the river through Belfast as the track there ran across where the river should be! The coast has had the sea gone as have streams, ditches, etc. Bbridges and surrounding areas flattened which means painstakingly going over months of work trying to sort this. And it is now one massive baseboard with no pant at all - all the shades are gone which is a groan. I will spend less time on that area and just slap down what is easy. It is the trackage that has when haywire. The only thing I think I can do is to try raising the ground to the level of the tracks.

I started trying to do something in the Belfast area where the roads, heights, etc were haywire and very time consuming. Can't see any otheralternative but to raise ground everywhere I find track sticking feet above where it should be and work my way on the bridges and surrounding areas of buildings. roads and scenery. Going to have a look at the other routes in the project to see how far the nightmare has extended.

It's worse.

I have been having really big probs since I upgraded from Vista to 09. Now when I go into 06 it is jerky when before it was fine.I then imported all my 06 into 09 as that was to replace 06 which I was going to ditch. However my build of the N. Ireland Rly has come to a full stop and have indicated the situ on the Trainz Forum. My latest posting I repeat here which will give a flavour of the utter frustration I have. My 06 has been spoiled and in09 I cannot extend or use my NIR build to the point of being pointless as this repeat of my last post indicates....

This is getting to the pointless stage.

I can use TRS09 fine with the built-in but on transferring from 06 to 09 my route build after over 300 boardsof the NIR is coming to a standstill.

1. As said, ll my paint is gone everywhere in fields, towns, villages the lot.

2. When I go into the route in Surveyor or Driver the thing is redrawing the baseboards. I get expanses of blue nothing with splines then the scenery appears. If I drive a train the same thing happens between gaps of blue and then back again.

3. When I try to start spraying in paint it won't work. Sometime after 15 minutes or so I get very slowly into paint mode then a few minutes later I cannot use it. Tonight after 30 minutes trying I cannot even do that. I have tried to extend it beyond what I imported into 09 but finding it hard to get the objects in after another half an hour trying. Not even a single tree can be put in never mind anything else.

4. A whole raft of bridges where roads went under have flattened on my lines along with the scenery at the same level of the track when before they were different heights. Trying to start that additional big headache is slow as each time the damn thing redraws and I get flashing between sky blue nothings then the boards coming back and so on!

I am very tempted to go back to my 06 build but that declined when I upgraded to Windows 7. Instead of a smooth running there I get jerky now. After so much work put in on this Northern Ireland project and much detail, I am loath to scrub it now with over 330 boards but this is a crossroads as I am getting nowhere in 09 except with the routes that came with it. Going back to 06 has been spoiled.

The other night when I briefly got into paint mode it took me ages to do even a small part of the 330 odd boards now empty of paint. Tonight I cannot even do that. I cannot go forward and cannot go back.
