Occasionally, I get the following error just before Trainz lauches:

It happens seemingly randomly. Sometimes several times in a row before I am able to start Trainz. Kinda like a weak starter motor on an old car. It is not a showstopper, but it is bugging me.

I have DirectX9. Heck, I even have DirectX ELEVEN.
I have the latest AMD drivers for my 7850.
I'm not going to use OpenGL because it looks like crap on my setup.
I'm just trying my luck here to see anybody can help, because it'll be Christmas before Helpdesk replies a ticket.

Thank you in advance.

Nicholas

DX9 and DX11 are so significantly different that the programs calling them require the specific version. You must make sure you have the latest version of DX9C installed.

In the /bin folder within the Trainz directory, there should be a program called "TrainzDiag.exe". Run that and post the output.

Re start your computer, extended database repair if you can get there!
Good luck and always back up your trainz, otherwise its like leaving your model railroad out on the main street in your town, some train lover is bound to take it. Meaning you've lost everything!

Cheers William

Hi RRSignal, Trainz runs at 1366x768 while the desktop is 1920x1080. While I would love to run Trainz at native resolution, doing so impacts performance when working on my large-ish route.

Hi Scott, I have run the test as Admin. The log is rather lengthy so instead of putting the wall of text here I've pasted it here. The window showed all tests passed.

Hi William, I'm trying to avoid an EDR as far as possible. That thing usually breaks more stuff than it fixes. Last 2 times I ran that sh!t all my route's portals and ATLS slaves disappeared. I have automated weekly backups of the UserData folder.

Also check that the settings in the Trainz Options box have not reset - specifically the rendering method, the resolution, the fullscreen setting, and the options on the Advanced Options tab.
