Objects that can not be detected or copied

Hi:

In some routes that I downloaded from differents webs I detected that there are some objects (houses, trees even splines) that when you click in "Get Object" button none objects are displayed in the object panel. or when you select an area that include it and copy it in another place that object is not copied.

Why? How can I get the neme of those objects?

This could be because you are using the wrong tool to get the object. For example - the object, a tree, may be part of a spline object and the "Get Object" button you are using is in the "Objects - Object Mode" Surveyor tool. In this case you would need to be using the "Get Spline" button in the "Objects - Spline Mode" Surveyor tool. The same applies in reverse - you are in the "Objects - Spline Mode" Surveyor tool and attempting to get a normal (non-spline) object.

Likewise with track that may look like sections of track (splines) but are actually fixed track segments that are normal (non-spline) objects.

My advice is to try each of the other "Get ..." buttons in the other Surveyor tools.

This also happens when I import one of my own routes from, for example, TRS2004 into TS2010. The trees (especially) are still there but cannot be recognised, changed or deleted - an yes, I am using the correct tab - object, spline etc. This is usually trees, especially groups, and I now delete them before importing the route. Single trees are often 'updated' automatically

Hi Ray,

Grouped trees are different and are normally hidden from view in Surveyor. They can be updated by adding a container in their config.txt files so they are available for selection in Surveyor. N3V doesn't recommend this since it can slow down the program. I can't recall what it is at the moment and I'm not at my Trainzing machine where I can check what it is.

Regarding the splines and other objects... I've had to too and it's quite frustrating because I can move them and delete them, but can't get the detail on them. There was one road in particular that did that to me and I ended up just removing it manually and relaying the road with a new one. The process was time consuming since we do have that nice replace objects tool.

I was informed by John previously
You have to find in the Config File

privileges
{
permit-listing 0
}

Change it to

privileges
{
permit-listing 1
}

If the container doesn't exist you can add it.
then you can do what you like with them.Cheers,
Mike

Hi John

If grouped trees are normally hidden in Surveyor, surely this would be so in my old 2004 routes and again when imported into 2010? I don't understand - but I'm talking about TRS2004 assets with names like 'Tree group 1' etc. (I wouldn't use them now.)

It's the Speedtree groups that are normally not listed in Surveyor (for performance reasons according to N3V). The fix is mentioned further up, but do so at your own risk as the groups are built-in assets.

I usually use the 'replace asset' function so it wont bother the game.Never had any problems with the assets.
