nube question: signals/junctions in cab mode

Hi all,

I note that you can select a train to "drive to" a location, all the signals and junctions jump to attention and provide a clear path for the train to drive itself to it's destination. Is there a way to tell the junction/signals god where I want to drive to and get the same courteous service for my own little meander so i don't have to keep jumping ahead with the camera to open all the right junctions myself by hand!?

I've got TRS 2004[FONT=arial,sans-serif] do i need to get a newer version for this function perhaps?

thanks

well drive to, uses the AI to drive it, so it does it all by itself. If you are IN the cab, then you are ultimately simulating an engineer in the cab, so you sort out the switches as you get to them, as it's done. You dont have to switch views, try CTRL + click, to change junctions from inside the cabin. But you can't, for prototypical reasons, go ahead and swicth them all, thats not very realistic, Another train might get to a junction before you, and change it... i hope this makes sense? im sure replies after mine will make more sense. I always look stupid when im the first replyer

I think that one way to do it is to set up a session for the route with all of the switches set the way that you want them initially set in Driver. It's been awhile since I've actually driven a route as I've spent most of my time creating, so I could be mistaken.

I think Ill research how to do this. Because I was wondering about this myself.

I thought of having something like "Lock Junctions" and the "Switch Junctions" rules to help sort this out.

I reckon that the "
Lock Junctions" rule locks the junctions to the user and the computer AI, but with the "Switch Junctions" and a child rule, I think that you can simulate a signal box working the line with the rules, changing them automatically on approach.

But as I stated, I haven't tried it before.

Correct me if I am wrong (someone else) but you can use the "J" button on your key board from in cab mode to change switches :)

I haven't checked but I believe that in TRS2004 at least it's Ctrl+J in cab mode to change the next junction, and just J in DCC mode.

Ctrl - J switches the junction behind you in DCC mode--- I think in Cab mode too.

Correct. When driving a loco yourself, in Cab or DCC mode, the J key will switch the next junction ahead of your train, and Ctrl -J switches the junction behind you.

As for the original question, do as Ben1337 says. Experiment using a combination of triggers and Switch and Lock Junction rules to help you on your way.

Matt.

thank you all for your swift reply folks. it's always nice to find an active community in our hobby.

bit of a bummer though. it would have been nice to just "tell the signal box" where my train is heading and let "them" adjust the route accordingly (like it so easily does for ai drivers), much like the old msts days. oh well, i guess i'll fumble around with scenarios and see if there are any clunky work-arounds. :(

cheers all

Yes, I should have checked before posting instead of relying on memory! TRS2004 Expanded Manual clearly says Click LMB on junction arrows to change junction ahead when in DCC mode and Control + Click LMB in cab mode. Or J key in cab mode to change junction ahead and Control + J key if you are reversing.
