Not sure about 09 - I might miss out.

Confused
What do I like about Trainz? one word sums it up pretty well: Everything.

A little bird - never mind, it's obivous Auran is trying to split us - drivers and content creators - apart in 09 (or so I think).

So what's the big deal with 'Driver' and 'World Builder' edition? Isn't there going to a combined version? Or is Auran trying to do something?

Then there's all of these new limits on content creation - I am sticking with 06 until further notice. And I am going build a model railway - I'm starting to think Trainz 09 is not all what it's cracked up to be...

There is a combined version...It's called World Builder Edition, which has everything that previous versions did including both Driver and Surveyor. I don't think Auran is trying to split us, since presumably, "driver only" people are already avoiding Surveyor as much as possible. Now, they'll simply have a program that caters to them.

Also, I'm not sure what new "limits" you're talking about in regards to content creation, but you're free to continue creating content in exactly the same way as you always have. Sure, older-style content might not be considered official "2009" content, but really, who cares? In fact, having a lower build number will actually make the content usable by a wider audience anyway.

Testing

Just a point I would like cleared up....

Re: Driver and Surveyor being spilt into seperate DCs.

In 2009 after creating a route will it still be possible to run in Driver to test it?
Otherwise how do you test your route!

Hi Angela,

From what Tony has said, the World Builder's Edition (WBE) will have a driver mode built in with fixed AI and some new commands. The Engineer's Edition (EE) will have extra driver commands, but no Surveyor.

They are both standalone programs that can merge togther into one so in the end you'll have a super copy of TRS2009.

Hi,

it needs to be remembered that Auran are looking forward, about one year from now, to Trainz Simulator X (working title). TSX, in my view, is going to be the 'real deal'. This is the version that'll be going 'head to head' with Microsoft Train Simulator 2.

Now, due to the limited resources available to Auran they rely heavily, I believe a little too heavily, on the 3rd party content creation teams to create most of the wonderful new stuff that will ship in the release.

In order to get the new tools into the hands of the community ASAP they've 'split' the release of TS09 into the WBE and EE. WBE is basically a working version of TRS2006 but with heaps of new features and content from TC1&2 however it only features a handful of new assets built to take advantage of the TS09 code changes. There's all the old content from TRS04, etc in there so all the older routes should load up and run so the creator can, if they so choose, bring the route upto TS09 standard progressively as new content becomes available.

If they hadn't split the release we'd be all waiting until Q1 2009 before we had access to the tools and Auran would've missed out on the mad Xmas rush !;)

EE is the first step towards this 'flood' of new content so if you're only interested in truely moving forward and don't care about backwards compatability and creating your own routes then EE is the way to go. Of course if you have a creative bent then you'll also need WBE to gain access to Surveyor.

As has been mentioned both WBE and EE will 'merge' if they're both installed on the users PC.

Steve.

Thanks

Okay guys, got the message and thanks for replying so quickly.

As long as I can test a route I create then I am a happy bunny.

God bless,

Angela

Hello Angela

Plus also when you buy TS2009WBE, once TEE is released Engineers Edition (TEE) is an "expand-alone". If you have WBE installed, TEE will install on top so then you get all the WBE features plus the new EE features and EE content. If you don't have WBE then EE is a standalone version of Trainz that doesn't include the Surveyor module.

Yes. You can do anything you did in TRS2006. It's only the EE that will be different, because there will be no Surveyor.
