No quick drive!?

I just loaded up TRS2022 and looked at the routes. None of the routes besides the builtin moffat tunnel route have quick drives, and I cannot place engines or rolling stock when inside of sessions. What the heck is going on?

Yes there is.

If you are in Surveyor, place a train down then click on the wrench icon and choose Driver.

You'll be started in paused mode, but you can then drive. When you're done driving, you can go to the same menu and click Surveyor.

To place rolling stock within sessions, you click on the wrench icon and go from Driver to Surveyor. Place your rolling stock and then click on the driver option again and drive.

This is the UDS or Universal Driver-Surveyor. There are other things you can do such as edit a route on the fly as you see things that need fixing, but this takes some attention to detail and forethought because you need to ensure you switch to the route layer, otherwise you'll modify the session and end up with drivers out of place when you save.

When you get to the route selector, choose "Create Session". That will pretty much work like quick drive, in that you can set up whatever you want, then as John says above, switch from surveyor to driver and go.

Wow, that’s gonna take some getting used to.

Yes. Fortunately this wiki will get you through it:

The most important thing to know is the current location of the trains is stored in the session, not the route. If you want to preserve the starting locations, don't save the session after driving. If you want to preserve the current locations, save the session. If you want to change the session while preserving the starting location, only modify the session when it is in its initial state.

Create a backup of the session too to CDP just in case something goes wrong, and you've had a brain fart and saved. How would I know...
