NO! Fixed Vertex Track NOT WORKING! VERY BAD NEWS!!! Please Help !

Hello all. I have just tried to work on some routes in TRAINZ and level out some track over some terrain. I placed my straight track at the height at the ends of it, and then tried to add intermediate spline points as I've always done... BUT, the spline points automatically jump to the surface of the terrain !!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!
The FixedVertex Track option IS checked in the surveyor options.

This is an extreme problem in surveyor in laying track !!!

Does anyone know how/why this is happening????

Please help. This makes it impossible to lay level and even track over terrain.

Thank you for any and all help.

Track will always follow the terrain when first laid, use the smooth spline tool after you have set the spline height to smooth it out.

The smooth spline tool is located in the advanced section of the track tab.

Hi Bill. When the USE FIXED HEIGHT TRACK option is checked in Surveyor options, that isn't the case. Always before, if that was checked then the track would remain fixed and be either above or below the terrain. THe track section remained straight and level. Now however, if you add an intermediate spline point to that section, it automatically jumps to the surface of the terrain, which it never has before. I did upgrade TRAINZ to the last version and I guess this is new behavior, but it is NOT good. I don't want the track to jump to the surface of the terrain. Yes, you can do the smooth spline, and I always do that, but there are times when I want an intermediate spline point to NOT jump to the surface. I want that intermediate spline point to remain under or above the surface in order to align track, elevations, etc. This "new feature" if that is the case has really ruined my track laying to the point I'm considering going back to a previous version of TRAINZ before this latest patch of TS12. I have no idea why this has changed !!

Wow. I've been trying all morning to lay smooth track around a curve, between high/low points etc. but simply can not. I could ALWAYS before run a straight piece of track from point to point, and then add intermediate spline points to that to correspond to any spline points needed in the track I was laying, then match height from the straight piece to the actual track to create a smooth and level track segment. NOW however, whenever I insert an intermediate spline point, that point automatically jumps to the SURFACE of the terrain !!!!! I can't have a submerged or floating spline point any more. THIS IS NOT GOOD!!!!!!!!!! At this rate, I'll have to uninstall this latest patch and go back to a previous patch of TS12. Surely there is a way to fix this problem. I can not believe that N3V would ruin this very important aspect of the surveyor. Pretty please!!!! and with sugar on top !!!!!!!!!!

It always worked in up through version 58414, but now that I've patched to 61388, this problem has developed. If there is no work around or fix, I will have to go back to 58414.

I have noticed too that the tracks automatically flatten out on the terrain when a vertex point is added. I thought it was something I had done because I modified the track I am using. This should be considered a bug or a change in track behavior, and should be reported to the N3V helpdesk as a bug since this issue has been confirmed by more than one person.

Thank you John. I was "hoping" that someone else had experienced this change. Sounds as though this is in fact a bug and should be reported because as you know, it makes it very difficult if not impossible to lay even/level track over terrain.
Thank you.
In the meantime, not sure what to do.

Hi Jeff,

You're welcome...

What I do is measure the terrain and add 0.20 to my track point to bring the track back up to height. I agree this makes leveling track very difficult especially on a DEM import where the grade is far from even.

This bug was apparently introduced with SP1 and maybe the HF4. I can't remember because as I said I had modified my track so it wouldn't float just before that time.

I noticed this bug had crept into TS12 61388 when I last used it. Not sure how as there's no rolling programme of patching I'm aware of but it worked alright before.

It doesn't do it in 49922 to which I've reverted, taking a track section with two fixed heights at either end and inserting a spline point is either at the same height (for level track) or in proportion to the gradient.

I have noticed it to in build 61388...if I add, say, a fixed piece of track like and industry, when I connect the track end pieces to it those pieces sink into the ground and the only way to raise them is to add a spline vertex point.

Thank you Vern and BN1970. What is the best way to reverting to a previous build number? Do I have to do a clean install or is there a way to uninstall a patch? I have too many routes and track splines to work with to stay as I am and unable to work with track. Thanks for any information!

When this happens, go to "track/advanced"- bottom row of buttons, place the cursor over a correct height vertex, press "get height", then select "apply height" and click on the faulty vertices. That will restore your level track. You can also enter a desired height and use that method again.

But not if you are splitting a track on a gradient, perhaps adding a spline point to smooth a curve or making junctions.

Re 61388 to 49922, I'm not aware of any built in means of doing this, I've always done a complete uninstall then reinstall and patch to 49922.
