No control

So, first of all, I'd like to admit/proclaim that I'm new to this forum and this product. I'm currently running into issues using older (2006 and 2004) units on my 2009 edition though. I've downloaded quite a few locomotives and rolling stock from various free sites and they all look excellent, but seldom run properly.

I'm currently trying to get San Juan Trainz Work's K-27 to work. The model doesn't respond to most of the controls and I can't figure out how to rectify the issue. I've tried swapping the "engine specs" out with ones from another (functioning) locomotive using the content creator plus, but that didn't work.

Any ideas? And is this the correct forum for this question?

What build number is your 2009, find it bottom right as trainz is launched.
You may need to patch to SP3 at least.
The 04+06 assets will need some work to get working properly, but not impossible.

Yah, I'm sure there's a way, I'm just a bit in the dark.

It's version 3.1. I've run the patcher and that didn't seem to do anything, sadly. I've tried running the "compatibility mode" and that doesn't do much of anything either, from what I can see. The engine will run in DCC mode, but not the other.

Can you (or anybody else on here) recommend a good reference as to how the configuration files are set up for a locomotive? I guess I can always write up my own config and try it out.

the auto patcher never worked. you need to find a guy named shaneturner on here, he has a site that you can download the correct patch.

also, if the locomotive works with DCC, but not the CAB controls, its possible the original creator never wrote up a script for the CAB controls to work.

also, a good idea is to test each thing you download after you download it, in other words, dont download 40 things, then play trainz

I hear my name mentioned...

To be able to advise on patches, please post the 5 digit number on the Launcher screen.

Before anyone mentions the link to patches, that may confuse the OP.

OK - there is one patch remaing to update to the latest version.

You can download it from http://download.ts2009.com/patch/41844_to_44653.exe.

Some advice regarding patching:
1.Make sure that Trainz is not running at all during patching.
2.Turn off your antivirus software during patching - it is also a good idea to disconnect from the Internet too.
3.This patch is a large file, so you may need to wait a short while whilst it is downloading.
4.Whilst the patch is installing, it will pause about half way through. This is normal - do not click the Cancel button.
5.If the patch does abort for any reason, copy and paste the complete patching log from the Patcher window.
6.If a patch is cancelled, or aborts after the Patching... message, then you must reinstall the program.

I have covered a few of the possible errors on my tutorial site.

Some further advice regarding SP4...

Some of the content may become faulty after this update. This is due to stricter content checks.

Also, a new tool called TADDaemon will run at the same time as Trainz, and closes itself a few minutes after Trainz closes. This means that users who used SP3 or before cannot simply shut down or restart their system straight after running Trainz.

It is possible to show TADDaemon and TrainzUtil activity, by doing the following:

1.On the Launcher screen, click Options.
2.Click Developer.
3.Tick the first box, then click OK.

One or more extra buttons/windows will appear on the taskbar - one of these is TADDaemon, the other ones are TrainzUtil (if more than 1 extra button/window). When closing Trainz, make sure these extra items have closed as well before shutting down.

Users will also notice differences when merging routes.

TS2009 SP4/TS2010 content can also be downloaded by TS2009 SP4 users.

Also, due to a bug, TS2009 SP4 users must be connected to the Internet to overwrite a custom route/session (built-in routes/sessions cannot be overwritten anyway AFAIK)

I don't think Prowler's K-27's work in cab mode they work okay in DCC mode. I tried to fix them last year when I was using TRS2006 by swapping engine specs with K-28's but to no avail and came to the conclusion that they were never intended to work in cab mode so I used the K-28's & K-36's instead they work ok in cab mode.
I believe these engines are for TRS2004/2006 unless they have been updated since last year.
