New versions of Trainz question

I was curious as to what most people do when a new version of Trainz is issued. Do they update to the latest version, and if so, does most of the content they have work with the latest version, or do they have to start all over purchasing or downloading new content?

I guess my question wasn't clear. If I purchase either Ts10 or Ts 12 for instance, and TS 14 is released, what do most Trainz owner do, buy the latest version , or keep what they have and if so, why?.

In TS12, alot of old assets do not work ... unless you apply alot of fix's to the config files.

In TS10 alot of people purposely never update patchs beyond build 44088, because of losing compatability mode, if you patch beyond that build.

If one were to buy TS14 (which is not built yet) it might have better graphics than TS12 ... and hopefully not have a whole new barrage of glitchs and bugs.

I use TRS2006 to build routes, as it is easier to use (user freindly).

I bought TRS2004 because I found it on E-Bay for cheap.

I bought TS10 because it has compatability mode (as TS12 does not), and because I had a discount voucher. Sadly TS09, 10, 12 do not run with good framerates on low end PC's.

I dint' buy TS09 because it is a rushed released predecessor to TS10, an has no advantages over TS10.

Once people buy a $1500 PC they never use 04, 06, 09, 10 again ... and stick with TS12.

Does TS12 run great on your PC ? ... If so ... Stick with it.

When TS13/14 comes out you can rush right out like all the rest of the folks and buy it ... convert all your TS12 assets to the higher version ... and trash TS12. (but this may be a long, long, time from now, if ever).

Cascaderailroad: I see nothing wron with TS2009. Since I never owned Trainz 2010, I do not know what the pros and cons are. I know trainz 2009 is great. Especially if you patch it sp3. sp1 and sp2 are not that good. sp3 is awesome. sp4 took a huge step downhill even though it allows you to use all of trainz 2010 content except speed treez. I left trainz 2006 and classics because of the dreaded fatal error message that appeared at some points.

Robert2d6: If I were you, once I install trainz, I would begin the patching process. Time may vary depending on how many patches you are performing. I patched trainz 2009 2 or 3 times which took between 2 and 4 hours. Once the patch is complete, then you may want to start adding new content.

I would say most complain that another version has been released when there is nothing wrong with the one they are using. Then they pruchase the new release and confirm their suspicions, after 6 months they realise they have a better product, but will not admit it.

That's the common complaint about a lot of software. Adobe and other bring out a version of something, tweak a button or two, maybe fix a bug, then release a new product.
